Siddhartha Gautama was born around 563 BCE and went on a 6-year journey seeking the meaning of suffering. After abandoning self-mortification, he sat beneath a Bodhi tree and became enlightened, realizing that suffering stems from desire and ignorance but can be overcome by following an Eightfold Path of right view, intent, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration.
