Responsible Use Agreement (RUA)
Parent-owned Laptops: children in years 6 and 7 are expected to bring their computer to school every day. The
expectations of usage at school are below:
1. I will use information and communication resources in a respectful, accountable, honest, legal and
responsible manner for learning and education.
My use of school information and communication resources may be monitored anytime I am at school.
My parents have the right to control my access to technology at home.
Permission from my parents and/or teacher is needed before I download software.
Manage my space on my hard-drive, keep my files organised and will back up my computer regularly.
Have integrity: be responsible for what I do when nobody is looking.
Keep my online communications respectful and responsible; and report any cyber-bullying immediately.
Turn in any electronics I see unattended (computer, phone, flash drive/thumb drive, mp3, etc.).
Use technology resources, such as printer supplies, wisely.
Use school provided data storage for school related content only.
2. I will protect my digital identity.
Respect other people’s privacy – online/digital privacy.
Keep all personal information private and will get my parents’ permission before giving out any details.
Keep my passwords private.
Lock my computer when I am not using it.
I understand that anything I post online is no longer private.
3. I will adhere to copyright laws and respect the intellectual property of others.
4. I will use resources in a way that does not disrupt my learning or the learning of others.
5. I will take proper care of all technology resources entrusted to me.
Carry my laptop properly and keep my computer in a safe location at all times.
Keep food and liquid away from all computers, and keep the keyboard clear.
Download and maintain antivirus software.
Come to school with my charger and a fully charged computer.
Repair my computer and report any damages.
If damages to technology resources are my fault, I am responsible for the repair or replacement charges.
6. I will follow division and classroom expectations and guidelines related to technology.
