Control Room Critical Situation and Emergency ACTIVITY REPORT
A6
Bryar fariq
Before I start we’re given an introduction on the system by the instructor, a short and
understandable brief about all the different visual aids which mounted around the room and
how to recognize the differentmodules of that platform called ‘’Generic Alfa’’ the platform was
divided into 6 modules which are: process module, well bay, utilities, power module, gas
treatment, water injection module and main deck. In addition with accommodation block. After
I realized that I can familiarize myself with the modules and the system in other way to get into
with the system more and also to adopt with the critical and emergency situation the instructor
called me for practicing. At first I had to identify the status and the location of an alarm on the
platform, the first alarm was sounded was a low gas alarm so that I radioed through to the
Tech Ops 1 and asked them to investigate it, TechOps 1 confirmed the received the message
and stated they were going to take Tech Ops 2 with them. When they arrived the exact
location they reported that the pipe in the module had burst and gas was escaping from it. The
situation then became an explosion in the process module. Multiple alarm in each corner of
the process module went off showed high gas, I gave an order for the Tech Ops team to get
out from the process module and get to the nearest master point, however I had no response
from them. With the potential to have casualties I decided the best action to make is the
complete shut down and blow down of the system. After the shutdown initiated, I activated the
general platform alarm (GPG) and put an announcement for all personnel to go to the master
points. The dumpers inside the process module were then activated to contain the fire within
the process module. And the deluge system was set off in an attempt to extinguish the fire in
the process module.
Called to ‘’Grampian warrior’’ the stand by boat, informed about the situation and he called
back that he received my message and stated that he was going to adopt with a new position
around the area and wait for further instruction.
The OIM was the phoned and after I updated him about the entire situation and the action that
had been taken. Then radioed to the master checker to find out if we have any missing
personnel, I was given 2 names, so I put an announcement over PA system for 2 individuals
to join their nearest master point, but unfortunately I received no answer.
Contact radio was made with the emergency response team (ERT) and briefed them about
the situation, they radioed back and stated that they are fully prepared and waiting for any
command. Then OIM once again called and told him the (ERT) were standing by and waiting
for any action. But watching that the blow down was not yet complete so the OIM refused to
let the (ERT) to inter the process module until the blow down was complete.
Radioed to the medic just to stand by and be ready for any potential casualties that may be
presentin the area, they reported back and stated that their full team are ready and wait for
command. After that i looked on the screennoticed that blow down has beencomplete and
tow of the high gas alarms disappeared only two low gas was left. Contacted to OIM and
updated the situation for any action to be taken, He instructed me to give the permissionto
the ERT to set up a forward control point and asked me to keep an eye on the screenonce
another low gas disappeared (only one left) give the full permissionto the emergency

response team (ERT) to inter the area, they Radioed and stated they are ready with BA
apparatus and set up a control forward in the designated location and wait for the command.
After the processmodule became clear and the was no gas alarm left and gave permissionto
ERT to inter the area then i waited them to radio me and give me an update about the area
and missing persons.Aftera short while the ERT team leader radioed and said they’ve
located the missing persons and need an immediate help, seeing that the medic team was
necessaryi contacted to OIM if he allow the medic team to get the area to treat casualties or
no, i got yes from OIM and radioed once to the medic to make their way immediatelyto FCP.
Grampian warrior then contacted and beentold that the situation is under control and it’s safe
to get back to their original place. I then received confirmation from them that warrior had
obtained the message and relocate to their original location around Generic Alfa.
It was at this point the instructor said exercise is over, complete recordings showing the
alarms that have been sounded and the response time for each action can be found in the
page below.
