The Phumula Mqashi Land Occupation in Tembisa has been repeatedly attacked by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department since it was founded on February 13, 2018. During the most recent attack on the settlement, the police burned 266 shacks and assaulted many residents, including the elderly and pregnant women. One person was severely beaten during the attack. The police also burned all of the residents' possessions. The land occupation residents vow to continue occupying the land despite the violent attacks.
