Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.

As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

alanları tamamen modern eşyalarla donatılmış olup oda-
larda telefon ve internet bağlantısı kesintisiz olarak verile-
bilmektedir. Her binada televizyon odaları, etüt salonları
ve ortak kullanıma açık oturma mekanları bulunmaktadır.
Öğrencilerin kullanabilecekleri mutfak, çamaşır yıkama ve
ütü odaları mevcuttur. 24 saat sıcak su, içmek için kaynak
suyu, güvenlik ve temizlik hizmeti sağlanmaktadır.
Üniversitemiz öğrenci yurtlarına öğrenci yerleştirme esna-
sında, öncelik ilk defa İTÜ’yü kazanan öğrencilere veril-
mektedir. İlk defa İTÜ’yü kazanan öğrencilerden İTÜ’ye giriş
sırasına göre oluşturulan asil ve yedek öğrenci listelerinin
yerleştirmeleri tamamlandıktan sonra ara sınıf öğrencileri-
nin başvuruları, not ortalamaları ve dilekçe veriliş tarihlerine
göre kontenjan dahilinde yapılmaktadır.

bağlantısı ve telefon mevcuttur. Öğrencilere daimi sıcak su, içmek için kaynak suyu, 24
saat güvenlik ve her gün temizlik hizmeti sunulmaktadır. Her katta ortak kullanımlı oturma
mekanları, her koridorda mutfak, çamaşır yıkama-kurutma ve ütü odaları bulunmaktadır.

Ayazağa Kız Yurdunun kapasitesi 144 kız öğrencidir. Yurt
içinde 24 saat güvenlik, içme suyu ve daimi sıcak su mev-
cuttur. Ayazağa Yurdu odaları üçer kişiliktir. Her katta ortak
kullanımlı mutfak, banyo ve tuvalet mevcuttur. Her katta
ortak kullanımlı etüd odaları vardır. Yurtta öğrencilerin kul-
lanımına açık televizyon odası, çamaşır yıkama-kurutma ve
ütü odası mevcuttur. Odalarda internet bağlantısı mevcut-
tur. Her katta ortak kullanımlı telefonlar yine öğrencilerin
hizmetine sunulmuştur.

Kız Öğrenci Yurdu
Ferhunde Birkan Yurdu, 180 kişilik kapasitesiyle Ayazağa
kampüsü içinde kız öğrenciler için büyük çapta imkan-
lar sunan modern bir yurttur. Yurt Odaları ikişer kişiliktir.
Odalarda internet bağlantısı ve telefon mevcuttur. Her katta
mutfak, banyo ve tuvalet bulunmaktadır. Her katta ortak
kullanımlı etüd odaları vardır. Yurt içinde öğrencilerin kul-
lanımına açık oturma ve TV odası bulunmaktadır. Yurdun
çamaşır odası, ütü odası bulunmakta olup, bundan farklı
olarak yurtta 24 saat güvenlik, daimi sıcak su, kaynak içme
suyu ve her gün temizlik hizmeti verilmektedir. Yurt içinde
oturma grupları, televizyon odaları bulunmaktadır.

nadan oluşmakta ve modern

ile lüks bir yurt niteliği taşı-

tadır. Gölet Yurtları’nın odala-
rı tamamen modern eşyalar-
la donatılmış olup odalarda
telefon ve internet bağlantısı
bulunmaktadır. Her binada
televizyon odaları ve daire-
lerde ortak kullanıma açık
oturma mekanları mev-
cuttur. Her dairede kendi
içinde kullanılabilen mutfak
ve banyo/lavabo bulunmak-
tadır. Gölet Yurtlarında her
binada çamaşır yıkama ve
ütü odaları hizmeti veril-
mektedir. Her binada daimi
sıcak su, içmek için kaynak
suyu, 24 saat güvenlik ve her
gün temizlik mevcuttur. Yurt
içindeki standart odaların dı-
şında her blokta bağışçı süiti,
idareci odası, tek kişilik ve iki
kişilik süit odalar bulunmak-

Erkek Öğrenci Yurdu
Gümüşsuyu Yurtları’nın kapasitesi 242 kişidir. Yurtta 24 saat
güvenlik, her gün temizlik hizmeti, daimi sıcak su ve içmek
için kaynak suyu hizmetleri mevcuttur. Gümüşsuyu Yurtları
odaları üçer kişiliktir. Odalarda ve etüt salonlarında internet
bağlantısı ve telefon mevcut olup, oda içerisinde banyo
ve tuvalet bulunmaktadır. Yurtta ortak çalışma mekanları,
çamaşır yıkama-kurutma ve ütü odaları, ortak kullanımlı
mutfak ve oturma mekanları bulunmaktadır.

Kız Öğrenci Yurdu
Gümüşsuyu Kampüsü içerisinde, Boğaz manzaralı, 44 kişi
kapasiteli, 3 kişilik, 2 kişilik ve tek kişilik olmak üzere toplam
16 odalı, 2 adet etüt salonu, yemek, dinlenme, televizyon
odası, tüm oda ve etüt salonlarında internet bağlantısı,
daimi sıcak su, öğrencilerin kullanacağı ve içinde 3 adet
buzdolabı bulunan mutfak, çamaşırhane bulunan ve ütü
yapma olanakları mevcut olan Gümüşsuyu Kız Öğrenci
Yurdu, güvenli, sıcak ve sevimli ev ortamındadır.

İMKB Erkek Öğrenci Sitesi
IMKB Öğrenci Sitesi 4 binası ile öğrencilere lüks ve huzurlu bir ortam oluş-
turmaktadır. Yurt Odaları üçer kişiliktir. Odalarda her öğrenci için giysi dolabı,
kütüphane olarak kullanabileceği dolap ve raflar mevcuttur. Her katta ortak
çalışma alanları ve her binada ortak kullanıma açık televizyon odası bulun-
maktadır. IMKB Yurtlarında her katta ortak kullanımlı banyolar ve tuvaletler
bulunmaktadır. Ayrıca bütün öğrencilerin kullanabileceği genel bir çamaşır yı-
kama- kurutma odası bulunmaktadır. IMKB Öğrenci Sitesi öğrencilerine daimi
sıcak su, içmek için kaynak suyu, 24 saat güvenlik ve her gün temizlik hizmeti
sunmaktadır. Kantin ve yemekhanesiyle öğrencilere her gün hizmet vermek-
tedir. Kantinde ücret karşılığı sabah kahvaltısı hizmeti verilmektedir. Kantinde
televizyon, bilardo masaları ve benzeri oyunlar bulunmaktadır.

Verda Üründül Kız Öğrenci Yurdu, Kampüs içinde yer alan
