This document provides information on Powerkey PRO and Powerkey 1000/1400 CAN keypads from Blink. The Powerkey PRO is a reconfigurable, relegendable keypad that is easily programmed via laptop. It has IP67 rating and customizable inserts. The Powerkey 1000/1400 CAN keypads combine the compact design of Powerkey family with CAN communication capabilities and software features like configurable CAN addressing and status transmission. Both product lines provide ruggedized and flexible keypad solutions.

EASY TO READ
With simple icons, large buttons and bright LED indicators, the PowerKey PRO
is easy to read in any situation. The multi-colored LED status rings also allow
you to set specific colors for specific functions.
CUSTOMIZABLE INSERT
Over 270 stock inserts legends. Printing options include:

BUILT TOUGH
Designed for even the harshest conditions, the PowerKey PRO withstands the
cleaning force of pressure washers and holds an IP67/NEMA6 rating, making it
virtually immune to water, mud, salt, sand, oil, chemicals or anything else
thrown at it.

3. SOFTWARE FEATURES
CAN and RS485 Keypad Addresses – Assign any valid CAN
(J1939) address to the keypad while also assigning the same
or a different RS485 address. Communicate on either BUS
simultaneously.
J1939 Address Claim Transmission – Keypads no longer
have to be pre-programmed to a specific address. This
enables customers that work in applications in the field without
access to a GUI to use any replacement keypad on-hand. The
keypad can be configured to automatically announce its
address and accept a new address assignment as appropriate.
Event Status Transmission – The keypad can send messages
to the BUS indicating a button press or a button release event
has occurred. This confirmation allows digital systems to have
the same input acknowledgements as that of the latching
position of a mechanical switch.
Periodic Heartbeat – The keypad sends a continuous
broadcast of messages to indicate it is functioning correctly.
The message indicates the press or release status of each
button at that instance. The frequency of these messages is
preset to one message every 100 milliseconds, but can be
adjusted as needed.
CANopen Communications Protocol – Fully compliant with
Device Profile 401d.
Add-On Buttons – Up to three Add-On Button ports, each
allowing for one input and two outputs, are available for discre-
et switches such as push buttons, rocker switches and toggle
switches. The extra contacts send and receive CAN, CANopen
and RS485 messages, appearing on the BUS as though they
were additional buttons on the keypad. Each Add-On Button
port comes with two output circuits which can be used to
power indicator lamps or LED’s on the switch.
HARDWARE FEATURES
IP67/NEMA 6 rated – Guaranteed to be dust tight and sealed
against water immersion to a depth of 1 meter for up to 1 hour.
UV Protected – UVB 400 hours: Keypad is highly resistant to
deterioration caused by exposure to sunlight.
DeviceNet Indicator – LED indicator status is used when
configuring the keypad in a DeviceNet system.
Application Programming Interface (API) – The Powerkey
Pro Development Kit allows access to the source code that
controls the functional logic of the keypad. An experienced
programmer can make configuration changes that would allow
for such things as changing the PGN’s and structure of both
received and generated messages. Additional functionality
such as automatically setting LED’s based upon a button press
can also be added.

SOFTWARE FEATURES
CAN keypad addresses - You are now able to assign any

predetermined frequency. This frequency can be set as low as
every 100 milliseconds. This feature can be used to monitor
the continuity of the system and is also helpful in troubleshoo-
ting a fault.
Periodic heartbeat - The keypad sends a continuous
broadcast of messages to indicate it is still functioning
correctly. This message indicates the press or release status
of each button at that instance. The frequency of these messa-
ges is preset to one message every 100 milliseconds, but can
be adjusted as needed.
CANopen communications protocol - Configurable baud
rate and custom CAN message. We have released a new
version of our CANopen that is fully compliant with Device Profile 401
