The survey received responses from 43 Catholic colleges and universities. It found that:
- Business ethics classes are commonly required but often taught outside the business school.
- About 1/3 of schools said bringing Catholic Social Teaching into the classroom was unimportant. It is most commonly incorporated indirectly or through extracurricular programs.
- Emphasizing the relationships between business and ethics, the common good, and poverty were widely seen as important, though ethics was the clear priority. Faith/spiritual life emphasis was less so.
- Schools rely heavily on cross-campus programs and service learning to influence students' social values rather than classroom teaching.
- Most schools reported few faculty conducting research connecting faith
Students are working more to pay for rising college costs, taking longer to graduate. Kelly Dunnigan works two jobs totaling over 30 hours a week to pay for school and have a car. College costs have increased dramatically over time, with the average student needing $87,000 for a public degree. When loans come due, students have options like income-driven repayment plans, PLUS loans for parents, and grandparents can gift up to $10,000 tax-free. Financial experts advise prioritizing loan payments and avoiding further debt.

The program sees community involvement as key to creating lasting impact. It aims to give students confidence and hope to succeed in school and beyond.
This document summarizes research on career and technical education (CTE). It finds that CTE can help address economic challenges like rising poverty and lack of social mobility. Research shows CTE increases high school graduation and engagement while also improving transitions to postsecondary education and careers. However, not all CTE programs provide high-quality career pathways; high-quality CTE requires industry-aligned curriculum, qualified teachers, work-based learning, and partnerships between secondary and postsecondary programs. The document suggests more work is needed to ensure Arizona's CTE programs meet these high-quality standards.

Why druid hill avenue is important in american music history [autosaved]Peter Brooks
This document discusses the historical significance of 2216 Druid Hill Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland. It was the childhood home of Cab Calloway and Blanche Calloway, two pioneering African American musicians. Cab Calloway lived there from ages 11-15, a formative time when he began developing his musical talents. The house represents an important place where early styles of African American music like swing and bebop took shape, eventually influencing genres such as rock and roll and hip hop. Saving the house could turn it into an educational cultural center honoring the musical legacy that began there.

The document discusses principles of harmony, clarity, and balance for website design. Harmony is achieved through elements like proximity, repetition, and consistent use of color and fonts. Clarity solves problems by being clear, coherent, and reducing distractions. Balance occupies negative space to create a sense of order and momentum. The key is giving all elements space, focusing on the main message, and following principles like KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) to build trust and guide users effortlessly.
Website best practices for business from a UIUX PerspecitvePeter Brooks
This document discusses best practices for designing business websites. It emphasizes that the fundamental question to ask is how people will access the website and what their experience will be once there. Research is key to understanding audiences - their demographics, buying habits, and desires. Businesses should view themselves as learning organizations that gather customer data to maximize engagement and performance. Trends come and go, so designers should focus on timeless principles like alignment, balance, and usefulness. Above all, research should inform how a website solves users' needs and provides the best possible experience.
Hussian College Spring 2017 Admissions OverviewPeter Brooks
The document discusses an open house presentation for Hussian College's School of Art. It outlines topics that will be covered including choosing a college major, career opportunities for art majors, what sets Hussian College apart through its creative focus and small class sizes. It also discusses financial aid options and paying for college, and concludes by listing the top 10 reasons to attend college.
Professor Peter Brooks discusses the power of animation with Hussian College students. Using his background in film he compares animation to film and determines that animation is the most powerful of the two.
Brightwood College will participate in a community event on June 3rd from 2-6pm at the James D. Gross Recreation Center in Baltimore, where faculty, staff and students will organize games and healthy snacks for families. This event is being organized by Jacqueline Lofton of the Allied Health Program and all Brightwood students, faculty, staff, alumni and families are invited to participate. The Brightwood College Financial Aid Department representatives encourage students to explore all options for scholarships, grants and work to help pay for college, and emphasize filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid as it allows students to be considered for most financial resources available.

School Spells Success!
Led by the hard work and desire of the students
and those who want to make a better future for
themselves, the President of the College announces
that the school is successful. “By just about every
conceivable measure, our school is successful,” said
President Staropoli. The key, of course, is in getting
students to attend classes.
When measuring the factors that support his
assessment, we include: accreditation scores,
attendance, job placement, graduation rates,
retention, grades and the recruitment of quality
faculty. “People have got to do what they say in
order for us to continue our success,” said Staropoli.
Shawn Taylor, A
Director on a

“Students, faculty and staff are getting it done.”
Taylor became a hero to the
College when she stepped in
for President Staropoli and
conducted the Graduation on
behalf of the Administration.
In that role, she articulated
the pride, honor and dignity
that represent graduation
from Brightwood College of

Students Flocking to Johns Hopkins!
The College is going to host a
Christmas party featuring Santa
Claus and lots of activities for kids
on Saturday, December 3rd 2016.
“We wanted an opportunity to
have another open house and
celebrate with our students and
families” said Campus President
Jeremiah Staropoli. The last event,
the Fall Festival organized by Mrs.
Downs was a huge success as over
100 people enjoyed food, fun and
fellowship. Based on that event
this one promises to be just as
awesome.

The College lost an excellent Career
Services Director when Stacy Polk
went on maternity leave. During the
interim, Career Services will be
handled by Mr. Marshall Ott who is on
loan to our campus from Brightwood
Beltsville. “Stacy is doing an
outstanding job and I intend to keep
the momentum she built going until
she returns in January” said Ott.
Baltimore’s second largest employer, the
Johns Hopkins University Medical System is
increasing the rate by which they hire
Brightwood College graduates. “Usually it
just takes one bad placement for an
employer to reject all future applicants
from that institution,” said Campus
President Jeremiah Staropoli, “but with
Johns Hopkins the opposite is true, our
students are doing very good work after
they graduate and so employers like
Hopkins are pleased with the quality of our
graduates.”

Get a H.S. Diploma at Brightwood!
“Penn Foster is one of the largest
accredited High Schools in the
nation, last year they graduated
25,000 students nationwide,”
said Campus President Jeremiah
Staropoli. “The fact that you can
come here 2 or 3 days a week
and get your diploma in as little
as 2 months is going to have a
big impact on the lives of many
young people who want to get
ahead in life and earn more
money” he continued.
College is hard. There is not only
learning something new, but
balancing school, family and
work is not easy. With that in
mind the administration at
Brightwood College of Towson
boiled down the three keys to
success for students.
1. Show up
2. Do the work
3. Work together (cooperate)
We feel if students can just do
these three things they will be
successful in school and in life.
“Convenient, fast, easy & cheap.”
Students Respond
“This could be
you.”
3 Keys to success.
It’s a known fact that students with the H.S.
Diploma earn $1,600 more per month than
those with GED. With that in mind,
Brightwood College is proud to partner with
the Penn-Faster High School of
Pennsylvania to offer the High School
Diploma to those who complete the new
Pathways Program being offered in Towson.
Graduating is one of the greatest
feelings. Everyone should experience it.
Enrollment is increasing, drops are
declining and graduation rates are up as
students faculty and staff are responding
positively to the college experience.
“The real secret,” according to President
Staropoli “is to do what you say and to
pay attention to everything.”

“Our percentage is the best

President Jeremiah Staropoli.
The Externship program is really just an opportunity for students to get
some professional experience at the most basic level. Brightwood College
Towson students however are so impressive that the work sites are hiring
our students right on the spot. This is an extraordinary achievement.
Increasing numbers of students are
choosing a career in Medical Billing
and Coding at Brightwood College,
Towson as enrollment numbers have
continued to climb. “I think people
see this as a career choice, with
interesting challenges and plenty of
opportunities for independence” said
Program Director Lisa Williams. “And as
our graduates become more successful,
that success just feeds off of itself which
is good for everybody.”

have been doing is not working and they see the opportunities out there
and they know that they can do it, they just have to make the
commitment. "That's why we say there are only 3 things you have to do:
1. Show up. 2. Do the work. 3. Work together. If you can commit to

Faculty Emphasize Active Learning
Under a directive from the Campus President, Brightwood College of
Towson faculty are directed to emphasize Active Learning techniques
in the classroom. “We want all our students to have the experience of
a hands on education” said Academic Dean Sheron Travers. “Its an
opportunity for students to demonstrate what they are learning, bond
together in teams to solve problems and generate excitement about
the subject,” she continued. Campus President, Dr. Jeremiah Staropoli
kicked off the initiative with a training session for the faculty that
demonstrated specific active learning techniques. “The objective here
is to create a phenomenal experience for our students in the
classroom so they retain and use all that they learn in school after they
graduate” said Staropoli.

Hughes “and even though its hard, I know I am
going to get everything finished on time.”
“The students are doing good, real good” said Mr.
David Harvin an instructor in the Allied Health
Program. “They know they have to do the work or
else take the class again,” he continued.
Students who are struggling with the work load or
attendance are encouraged to reach out to their
faculty members or the Dean as soon as possible.

In a time when confidence and the overall

eroding, the Brightwood College of Towson
is leading the charge for change. “The best
place to be if you want to change something
is to work from within the system” said
Campus President Jeremiah Staropoli. With
that in mind the classes, faculty,
administration and indeed the entire
community has come together to help our
students become leaders for a new

that our college is able to recruit
such highly esteemed and
experienced faculty members for
our students,” said Dean Sheron

be for our location, another factor
is the quality of our students and

and Brightwood also represents an
opportunity for a career change

Professor Charles Williams arranged for the
Criminal Justice Program to have a dog visit
campus. Accompanied by Sheriff Wilson,
“Buddy” was on campus demonstrating his job
as a Criminal Justice professional. “He actually
is a courtroom dog that specializes in detecting
explosives” explained Williams who arranged
for the site visit. “Our goal was to show the
Criminal Justice majors what resources are
available to them after they graduate” he
continued. Many options are open for students
with an education in Criminal Justice and unlike
Buddy who will always be a demolition
specialist a student with a degree can do just
abut anything they want within the field.
The Megget Firearm Simulator (FAS)
has gotten a huge software upgrade
orchestrated by campus President
Jeremiah Staropoli. “There are a lot of
entirely new scenarios, locations and
situations and the production value
seems to be better,” said Staropoli.
The President has asked that CJ Faculty make
more use of the FAS.

pretty phenomenal.” It is hoped that a little refreshment
before class or during a break will help stimulate students
academic performance and encourage them work harder.

The Department of Career Services
at Brightwood College of Towson
reports “the students who are
willing to do the work and be
persistent are getting jobs,”
according to Stacy Polk the new
Director.
Since employers are visiting the
campus now on a regular basis,
students are asked to dress
professionally and conduct
themselves in serious manner.
Students are also reminded that
faculty and staff are often asked by
employers about the students.
“Plenty of food, plenty of fun.”
Students Respond

Faculty are increasing academic rigor
in the classrooms and students are
responding by winning awards and
increasing attendance. “The classes
are hard, but I think I am going to

said one CNT student. Students are
asked to contact their faculty by
phone or email if they will miss class.
Students, faculty, staff and their

COLLEGE EDUCATES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Brightwood College Program on Nutrition, Science and Life Support
Baltimore, MD, June 4, 2016– Brightwood College of Towson’s students, faculty, administration and
alumni focused its educational efforts on the Baltimore children’s afterschool program at the James
Gross Recreation Center in West Baltimore. The Friday afternoon event featured classes in nutrition,
the science of criminal justice, CPR and chess as well as a number of other fun activities organized by the
College.
“I have done a lot of events similar to this over the years, and this was the best I have ever seen in terms
of its impact, programming, participation and general fun factor,” said campus President Jeremiah
Staropoli.
The activity lasted from 2-5pm and was organized by Campus Externship Coordinator Jaqueline Lofton.
“We wanted to have diverse activities at various stations so that the children would get exposed to a
number of different academic disciplines to support what they experience in the classroom,” said
Lofton. She utilized the faculty in Criminal Justice to produce an actual crime scene in which the young
people would perform a forensic analysis, the Allied Health faculty taught basic CPR and the Admissions
office presented healthy food recipes, samples and snacks. Other stations included teaching the kids
how to play Chess, a checkers board, a collage table, and a faculty/staff created obstacle course.
All the students won awards and were given medals for participation and winning.
“We want to do this every quarter” said Staropoli, “and the next event will feature a game of Jeopardy
that our Computer Technicians will create.”

Brightwood College has not yet announced a date for its next event at James Gross, but Staropoli
mentioned he would like to include more of the community members who live in the area, many of
whom left their homes to see all the activity taking place during the after school program.
