1997-98 Northwestel-Passport Frame Relay Data Network Design and Installation
Develop proof of concept test procedure that met the demands of the Government of
the Northwest Territories (GNWT) on a Nortel Passport based frame relay network.
Interface frame relay network with satellite and terrestrial facilities.
Develop network management procedures with Northwestel operations to configure
and support the frame relay network.
Deploy framer/deframers to allow HDLC video signal to interface with frame network.

3. 2006 - 2007 Northwestel-Migration of ATM NETWORK to MPLS CORE NETWORK
Provide network diagrams and configuration for the migration from an ATM DS3 core to
an IP/ MPLS DS3 core.
This involved the establishment of Circuit Cross Conect (CCC) for Passport ATM/Frame
Relay trunks and the migration of ATM-VCC`s traffic to IP/MPLS traffic.
This cutover was carried out flawlessly over 2 cutovers moving Northwestel from an
ATM based to an IP based network.
2007 Northwestel-Juniper PE POP in Edmonton for National VPN ACCESS
Design and install 2 Juniper M120`s in Bell`s Edmonton POP.
Provide network diagrams and configurations for Edmonton M120 PE routers.
Turn up and cutover all Northwestel Internet traffic to Edmonton redundant PE M120`s.
Turn up and cutover all Northwestel-Bell frame relay gateway traffic.
Establish VPN back to back VRF interface design with Bell Canada and Telus.

Alaskan Fiber Optic Link from Whitehorse, Yukon to Seattle, Washington
Design and develop preliminary costing for building a fiber optic link between
Whitehorse, Yukon to Seattle, Washington. This was a fiber build to Juneau, Alaska and
obtaining wavelength facilities into Seattle. This design provided an IP interface to the
Internet in Seattle that was linked to Whitehorse providing multiple 10 G interfaces in
Whitehorse.
This has been an ongoing project and I recently provided a design modification to
provide 100 G interfaces.

Design, Install and turn up a fiber optic link between buildings for the Whitehorse
Hospital.

Yukon Zinc IP Network with Cisco VOIP link to PSTN
Design, price and install a Cisco based local MAN on fiber and cable at Yukon Zinc in the
Yukon. Provide Local IP connectivity via cable and wireless. Provide Internet access,
Cisco VOIP, Corporate VPN and PSTN interfaces over a satellite link.

Design Networks and Technical Support
Provide engineering support for the design, estimate and installation of LAN, Man and
Wan communications. These projects provide customers with Internet access, VOIP,
Corporate VPN, wireless access and PSTN interfaces. Cisco networking equipment is
used to provide the LAN, MAN and WAN infrastructure. VOIP is provided by Cisco server
and router based VOIP equipment and also various Asterisk based server applications.
The WAN links are provided over satellite, radio, and fiber optic facilities.

Design, test, install and train Northwestel personnel on a Memotec Netperformer based
satellite media server for PSTN and private customer implementations. This server was
deployed on Cisco network equipment. It provided VOIP trunks and analog, digital or IP
interfaces.

Design, estimate, test, install and turn up High Speed Internet (HSI) Over Satellite. I
carried out all engineering functions, programmed all network equipment and
supported installation technicians. High Speed Internet (HSI) Over Satellite was installed
in the following communities:
Arviat, Rankin Inlet, Cambridge Bay, Colville Lake,Deline, Gamèti, Holman(Ulukhaktok),
Lutselk'e, Nahanni butte,Paulatuk,SachsHarbour, TroutLake and Wekweeti.

Design, estimate and provide technical support for a project to provide a Cloud
Computing network based in Whitehorse, Yukon. This network will be provided on
VMWare software on Cisco UCS Firmware. This is an ongoing design project waiting for the
economics to warrant installation.

Removal and Replacement of Passport Network Equipment Infrastructure
Northwestel installed a Nortel Passport based network in 1997 to provide data
services via Frame Relay, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and Virtual Private
Network (VPN) equipment platforms supported on this network. These network
platforms have been replaced by Juniper and Cisco equipment operating on an
Internet Protocol (IP) platform. McWatters Network Engineering ensures that the
Passport Network is removed from Northwestel’s network in a manner that does not
adversely affect customers.
