3. So instead, they went on through Mysia to the seaport of
Troas. 9 That night Paul had a vision: A man from
Macedonia in northern Greece was standing there,
pleading with him, "Come over to Macedonia and help
us!" 10 So we decided to leave for Macedonia at once,
having concluded that God was calling us to preach the
Good News there. 11 We boarded a boat at Troas and
sailed straight across to the island of Samothrace, and the
next day we landed at Neapolis. 12 From there we
reached Philippi, a major city of that district of Macedonia
and a Roman colony. And we stayed there several days.
4. 13 On the Sabbath we went a little way outside the city to
a riverbank, where we thought people would be meeting
for prayer, and we sat down to speak with some women
who had gathered there. 14 One of them was Lydia from
Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth, who
worshiped God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her
heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying. 15 She
was baptized along with other members of her household,
and she asked us to be her guests. "If you agree that I am
a true believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at
my home." And she urged us until we agreed.
Editor's Notes
Most often when we talk about taking new territory we go to Exodus and take lessons from the Israelites possessing Canaan, but in the New Testament there are also many powerful situations where new territory was taken and barriers where broken.
Recognize – To know again to recall to mind, Seeing always precedes possession. The vision was the mandateTaking New territory is actually about retaking territory that God had originally intended for you or territory that once belonged to us but was stolen by the Thief. God created the earth and gave it to Adam and Eve, it was man’s to possess and cultivate, but the Deceiver stole it from us. Now we reclaim the earth and bring it back under His kingship.Reorientation – With the mandate and the vision of what must be we step into it with obedience. We must through obedience reorient ate our lives to the new truth, reposition ourselves for what is to come. Obedience is stepping out of the present reality into future promise. It is acting now on what you see is to come. It is acting as if the future is real. Reaffirm – God always goes before us, every place He sends us to we will find Him there already busy. We must discern and reaffirm the seed that He has already planted. In every field He has planted the seed of the kingdom, we must find it water it. Lydia and the others were praying by the river, already seeking God. Where is the river in your new territory? Where is the seed ready to be cultivated. Remain - Once you found the seed connect with it, spend time there realize that this is the beginning the first fruits of the kingdom and if this is not established then the second fruits cannot be taken. Don’t rush of to the next properly establish the beachhead. We are to extend kingdom community in order that discipleship can take place.
