1) Playing action video games can have beneficial cognitive effects such as improved visual attention and spatial skills, but these benefits may not transfer to real-world tasks. Violent video game content can increase aggressive thoughts and behaviors.
2) Excessive video game play, especially of online games, has been linked to negative social and mental health issues like depression and addiction in some cases. Long play sessions can replace time spent on other important activities.
3) While video games may improve some cognitive functions, they have also been found to correlate with increased attention problems due to the different type of attention required compared to academic settings. The effects of video games, both positive and negative, depend on the specific game and individual characteristics.
