This document identifies hazards, assesses risks, and proposes risk controls for the Orthopedic Department. Three key hazards are identified: 1) needle prick injury from leaving a needle attached to a heparin bottle, which poses a medium risk; 2) slip and fall hazards from a slippery floor due to water leaks in the ceiling, also a medium risk; and 3) heat collapse risk to patients from high temperatures without sufficient airflow, again a medium risk. Engineering, administrative, and PPE controls are proposed to reduce the risks, such as no loose needles, warning signs, allowing fans, and establishing a PPE policy.
