Introduction
 Trauma, Injuries, stress and some bone diseases like
Osteoporosis and Osteogenesis can cause bone fracture or
bone damage.
 Bone grafting is needed to repair and replace damaged or
missing bone tissue.
 Bone grafting involves removing a small piece of bone from
one area and placing it in an area that needs healing or
reinforcement.
 Bone grafting promote bone healing after fractures, and
enhance bone support for procedures like joint replacements
or dental implants.
Type of bone grafting
 Auto-grafts
 Allo-grafts
 Xeno-grafts
Significance
Important in orthopaedic surgery, like joint replacements.
Actions accurately.
Work quickly but precisely
 Help to Position the tissue before the cement hardens.
Reduces surgery duration.
Surgeon can divide his time into many steps.
Objective
To study the effect of solid phase composition of BCP and MCPM on the initial
and final setting time of bone cement.
Scope
Bone cement is fabricated using BCP and MCPM as solid phase and
water as a liquid phase.
Solid phase compositions of BCP:MCPM used in this study are (1 : 1,
1 : 0.8, 1 : 0.6)
Powder to liquid ratio used in this study is 3 g/ml.
Research Methodology
BCP and MCPM are in solid form are convert into powder by using
Mortar and pestle.
This powder is mixed with a liquid like water to form a paste like
solution.
Powder to liquid ratio is 3g/ml which is constant.
Teflon moulds(6cm/12cm) are filled with paste.
Research Methodology
Teflon moulds put under the Gilmore needles.
Fine needle is used to measure initial setting time.
Heavy needle is used to measure final setting time.

Conclusion
When BCP and MCPM ratio is 1 : 0.8 then it has optimal setting time which
is best setting time for working.
