Bob Brown was born in 1944 and graduated from Sydney University with a degree in medicine. He became an environmental activist and director of the Wilderness Society, being jailed twice for organizing protests against dams and logging. Brown was elected as the first Green party member of the Tasmanian Parliament and later the Australian Senate. As a senator, he introduced bills regarding climate change, wildlife protection, and other environmental and social issues. Brown received the Australian Peace Prize in 2009 for his commitment to peace, non-violence, and global justice.
