2nd Corinthians 8:7

2. What is
happening in
Jerusalem?
Acts 11:28 - 28 Then one of them, named Agabus,
stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was
going to be a great famine throughout all the
world, which also happened in the days of Claudius
Caesar. 29 Then the disciples, each according to his
ability, determined to send relief to the brethren
dwelling in Judea.
Gal. 2:10 - 10 They desired only that we should
remember the poor, the very thing which I also was
eager to do.
Rom. 15:26 - 26 For it pleased those from
Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain
contribution for the poor among the saints who are
in Jerusalem.
1 Cor. 16:1,3 - Now concerning the collection for
the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of
Galatia, so you must do also… 3 And when I come,
whomever you approve by your letters I will send
to bear your gift to Jerusalem.

3. “It is to your
advantage
[to give]” 8:10
Equality – that the church may
survive 8:13-14
Proof - It is physical proof of love

Stirring up - Giving can stir up
others 9:2
The Unwanted Shame - It would
shameful if they did not give 9:4
God - God loves a cheerful giver 9:7

4. ”For you
know the
grace of our
Lord Jesus
Christ” 8:9
Grace was given freely 8:8, 9:5
But it was paid for 8:9
Joy was a motivation 8:2
The blueprint was good, but the job had
to be completed 8:10-11
It was done out of sincere love 8:8
Phil. 8 Therefore, though I might be very
bold in Christ to command you what is
fitting, 9 yet for love’s sake I rather
appeal to you

5. God is at the
Center of
Giving
The Corinthians were thankful to God for
being able to give 9:11
Those in Jerusalem were thankful to God
for providing their needs 9:12
They prayed for the Corinthians 9:14
God put this grace in them 9:14
“Thanks be to God for His indescribable
gift!” 9:15
