1. Vol. 5 Issue 9 September 2015
The countdown has begun! We have just a little over four months for stepping into the 150th
Foundation Year. It is a milestone that all Balmer Lawriens are eagerly waiting for to witness. A core
committee has been formed to formulate plans and programs for the year long celebrations that would
kick off on 7th February 2016 across locations. We had recently organised the 150th Anniversary Logo
Competition. The response was overwhelming with 40 participants and over 70 entries. C&MD and
Directors were the judges and declared Mr. Vikas Pednekar of Travel & Vacations, Mumbai as
the winner. Congratulations Vikas!
Vikas along with the winning entry! This logo will be used in all branding collaterals related to the 150th
Anniversary celebrations.
The Hindi fortnight celebrations commenced on Hindi Divas, 14th September with various programs
being organised across locations to promote the use of the Hindi language in our day to day
communication. The Hindi language enjoys the status of being the first official language of the country.
Let us all proactively work towards enhancing the use of Hindi in our official work and communication.
We will bring you glimpses of the Hindi Fortnight celebrations in the next issue of BLOOM.
Daan Utsav - The Joy of Giving Week will be organised from 2nd to 8th October. As part of this, a
collection drive of both old and new clothes, stationery, footwear, kitchenware, home furnishing,
electrical & electronic goods, accessories etc. will be organised in the Eastern Region and the donated
items will be distributed amongst the needy. We urge all employees in Kolkata to actively participate in
Daan Utsav.
September is the harbinger of the festive season in India. BLOOM extends its best wishes to you and
your family for all the festivals and celebrations! As always, I'll look forward to your feedback,
contributions and suggestions. Do send them to mukhopadhyay.mohar@balmerlawrie.com.

8. Why is a Safety Toolbox Talk so important?
A safety toolbox talk is a short safety talk, normally delivered at the workplace (not a training room)
on a specific subject matter. It should be short (5 – 10 minutes) and to the point with a specific safety
message. The objective is to raise awareness of a particular safety aspect of the work. This is required
to be done on a regular basis such that the safety culture is well reinforced.
In Balmer Lawrie too the safety tool box talk has been institutionalized at some of the units and the
workmen are regularly briefed on various safety aspects.
