PepsiAmericas faced challenges in 2000 with an autonomous business model that lacked integration. They lacked IT capabilities to meet retailer demands. Moving to a coordination model by creating a common data repository (CDR) and data warehouse (DW) allowed for integrated data across business units. This provided efficiencies but standardizing processes proved difficult due to different requirements between regions. Non-IT executive support was key in developing consistency, uniformity and governance for the new model. The coordination model provided opportunities to enhance performance and costs while allowing business units flexibility.
