BlankOn is an Indonesian open source software project that develops several products including BlankOn Linux, Ridon mobile OS, and Manokwari HTML5 desktop. The project aims to promote software independence and develop skills through a communal "gotong royong" approach with developers from various backgrounds interacting online and through offline meetups. Some challenges faced include limited and unreliable internet access, the team's geographical dispersion, and financial constraints, but contributors continue collaborating through mutual assistance and support.
