This document summarizes a study on suicide trends among elementary school-aged children in the United States from 1993 to 2012. The study found that while suicide rates decreased in white boys aged 5 to 11 years over this period, rates increased in black boys. Specifically, the suicide rate increased 26% in black boys but decreased 15% in white boys. Additionally, while suicide rates were similar between black and white boys in 1993-1997, by 2008-2012 black boys had a 165% higher rate of suicide compared to white boys.
