2. Things to do -- Journal Entry # 5
• 1. Identfy one person --a teacher, a relative, a family friend, a
neighbor whom you can write about
• 2. Conduct a 20-30 minute interview with the person
• 3. Follow the tips and contents of a biographical sketch
• 4. Ask for one picture -- ID pic to be included in your bio sketch
• 5. Have him/her sign the draft of your journal entry before you write
the final version of your entry.
• 6. Write in one or two pages the entry in your CNF journal (Entry # 5)
which will be due on April 8/9 ( 50 points) .Attached the draft with
the person’s signature in your journal.
3. What is Biographical Sketch?
• It means an account of the life and activities of an individual or family.
It would include information about the person’s name, place of residence,
education, occupation, life and activities and other important details.
ALWAYS WRITTEN BY SOMEONE ELSE except THE PERSON ON WHOM IT IS
WRITTEN --IT’S NOT YOUR LIFE STORY BUT SOMEONE ELSE’S LIFE STORY
a brief professional career development document which describes your
educational background, work experiences, studies, student or community
organizations, and any other professional activities /honors you would like to
include.
It is a written resume that also includes items that are difficult to convey in the
bulleted style of a resume,
4. What’s are the ideas found in a B.S.?
• 1. presents the facts about the person including what the person did
and how he or she influenced the world.
• 2. It should describe the person’s personality and provide an
explanation for why he or she acted in certain ways.
• 3. One to three paragraphs with a 250 word limit-- Eight (8) to ten
(10) sentences per paragra
• 4. Limited to professional and academic qualifications, although
interests and skill information may be included
• 5. Photographs of a professional and appropriate nature are
permitted and encouraged.

• 2. Significant and impressive points be included-- LESSONS IN LIFE
• 3. Special awards or recognition should also be mentioned
• 4. Be descriptive - Sentences must be clear and uses simple words.
• Main Points to be included:
• Name and Age (birth and death )
• Main personality traits
• Special interests (Likes and dislikes)
• Education and training (important career accomplishments)
• Special contribution or research , if any (important personal milestone)
• Why people like him/her-- the impact on others , what the individual is known for
• Such sketches focus on the biographical details besides the achievements and honors conferred
on. -- a quote, a fun fact, or succinct anecdote that illustrates something important about the
person
6. Questions being asked while doing a biographical
sketch
• How old is he or she?
• What is her/his occupation?
• What are his/her personal traits?
• Where he /she was born and raised?
• What are his /her educational background ?
• What are his/her achievements/recognitions he or she got?
• Why did you choose that person as the subject of your bio-sketch?
