Morin V Prince Edward Island Regional Administrative Unit No 3 School BoardDarryl Hunter
This case concerns a school teacher, Richard Morin, who showed a film called "Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be Done" to his grade 9 class. He was then prohibited from showing the film to other classes or continuing with the related project by the school principal. Morin appealed this decision internally and was partially successful but was then placed on involuntary leave for the rest of the year and not rehired for the following year. Morin sued the school board for breach of freedom of expression under the Charter, wrongful dismissal, and defamation. The trial judge dismissed all of Morin's claims. Morin has now appealed the trial judge's decision.

This document discusses the inclusion of students with special needs in mainstream classrooms. It explores both the benefits and challenges of inclusion. Research has shown inclusion has positive impacts on both the academic achievement and social development of students with special needs. Studies also indicate inclusion does not negatively impact students without special needs. While some students may initially feel uncomfortable around students with disabilities, inclusion fosters understanding and respect among all students. Overall, the document argues inclusion aligns with Canada's values of equality and is beneficial for students of all abilities.

This Supreme Court of Canada case involves an appeal regarding the placement of a child with disabilities in an educational setting. The child's parents appealed a decision that placed the child in a special education class, arguing it violated her equality rights. The Court of Appeal allowed the appeal, finding the decision contravened the child's Charter rights. The Supreme Court allowed the appeal, finding the Court of Appeal erred in considering the constitutional issues without proper notice as required. The Court also found the child's placement did not violate her equality rights under the Charter. The child's best interests were considered in determining her placement, which was meant to reasonably accommodate her disabilities.
The document discusses various types of schools in Saskatchewan including independent schools, alternative schools, and home-based education. It outlines the requirements for each type of school to be registered and accredited in the province, including conforming to curriculum, employing certified teachers, and meeting health and safety standards. It also discusses the historical high schools in Saskatchewan that are deemed to hold certificates as independent schools.
The document discusses Native Studies education in Saskatchewan. It notes that while the province has made efforts to improve education for First Nations students, outcomes still lag behind non-Aboriginal students. Native Studies was introduced to focus on First Nations content, but questions remain around its structure and whether it should remain separate. The document also examines the challenges of having mostly non-Aboriginal teachers delivering Native Studies curriculum.
The document discusses the Native Studies curriculum in Saskatchewan. It notes that while the curriculum was created with noble intentions to improve education for First Nations students, it has faced criticisms. There are concerns about non-Aboriginal teachers teaching the content in a potentially Eurocentric way. The document also examines the debate around defining "authentic Aboriginal content" and whether isolating Native Studies as a separate discipline hinders its goals.
