Lucifer was originally a cherub who guarded God's throne. God placed Lucifer in charge of angels on Earth. Lucifer became vain and prideful, deciding he wanted to exalt his own throne above God's. Lucifer turned a third of the angels against God. When Lucifer and the angels tried to take control of the universe from God, they were defeated and cast back down to Earth. Lucifer became known as Satan, meaning "adversary."
