Job Purpose
Lead BI developer for key business areas, responsibilities over the full data warehousing lifecycle.
Providing technical leadership and influence, cross-functional communication, mentoring and
knowledge sharing.
Key Responsibilities
Cognos DataManager, Framework Manager, Report Studio, Query/Analysis Studios, Transformer,
Oracle (12g), Toad for Oracle, MS SQL Server 2012 (Management Studio),
DataStage, SSIS, Excel (Reporting, VBA, PowerPivot)
Data Warehousing: Kimball Methodology, Data Modelling, Multi-Dimensional Reporting, Star
schemas (snowflake), SCD - Slowly Changing Dimensions, Conformed Dimensions.
Data mart builds: business analysis, reporting requirements, logic gathering, data extract-
tranform-load (ETL), testing, delivery, data profiling, data analysis/insight and visualisation.
Performance tuning: SQL refactoring, dimensional remodelling, indexing, partitioning, parallel
processing, incremental loads, OLAP cube modelling, Oracle procedural/query engine isolation.
Full rewrites of inefficient externally provisioned marts, also seamless SQL Server to Oracle
migration of core student data mart, in each case returning substantial performance gains.

Technical Lead/Liaison, Predictive Analytics Student Dashboard: National Times Higher
Education (THE) Award winning student retention and engagement project. Promoting and
influencing conceptual understanding within university strategy group for implementation, and
ongoing collaborative development with vendor of a high profile industry-pioneering Autonomy
IDOL student engagement and retention solution.
Lead DW Analyst/Developer, QR Attendance Monitoring: a further prestigious THE Award
winning project. Responsible for, creation of the university's first institution-wide operational data
mart and reporting suite for innovative data capture solution leveraging QR codes;
implementation; training of academic staff and user acceptance.
University Corporate KPI Dashboard: integrating cross-institution data marts; Academic KPI
Dashboard: enriching with external and statutory data sources to report comparative performance
across the sector; Creation of university's initial suite of student reports and dashboard portal.
Proactively built up comprehensive internal BI-on-BI data mart and reports to monitor and
analyse proliferating overnight ETL processes.
Technical Lead, Business Solutions Strategy Group: multidisciplinary cross-functional team
tasked with analysing project resource planning. Identifying the need for a concise data driven
