Presentation given by Ashley Creek, Emerging Technologies Librarian at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, KS at Brick and Click Academic Library Symposium 2017
What are the secrets of being social online? In a special birthday haiku deck Shirley Ayres asks some of the people she admires to share their top tips....
As more and more people are coming to realize, there is far more to living a truly successful life than just earning a bigger salary and capturing a corner office. Our relentless pursuit of the two traditional metrics of success - money and power - has led to an epidemic of burnout and stress-related illnesses, and an erosion in the quality of our relationships, family life, and, ironically, our careers. In being connected to the world 24/7, we're losing our connection to what truly matters.
Drawing on the latest groundbreaking research and scientific findings in the fields of psychology, sports, sleep, and physiology that show the profound and transformative effects of meditation, mindfulness, unplugging, and giving, I show us the way to a revolution in our culture, our thinking, our workplace, and our lives.

So how do you reach them? What kind of key performance indicators do you need to track? What elements of your leisure strategy can be repurposed for the meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition market? And how can you do all this with your limited budget and staff?

Company Workations: Latest Work Trends for Virtual TeamsPGi
The dreaded workation crams work into employees’ personal time off, but there’s another version of the workation that can be energizing and productive for the entire business: the company-planned workation.
More workation news and trends: http://blog.pgi.com/
The traditional company workation (a.k.a. the corporate retreat) brings to mind teambuilding activities in the woods and executives talking strategy on the golf course, but modern workations include the whole team and happen at exquisite resorts, rugged adventures and unconventional hideaways.
No longer just a perk for long-standing corporations, workations increasingly act as a pillar for company culture at fledgling startups and existing SMBs. Team workations can also produce substantial ROI for virtual teams that typically meet via video conferencing, providing valuable face time and relationship building for remote teams and teleworkers.
Conventionally, companies plan retreats around projects that require more collaboration time than the average online meeting, like strategy and product launches. However, modern workations go beyond core business tasks to aid in productivity, innovation, creativity and old-fashioned fun for employee retention (especially in light of Millennials’ expectations).
To really make the most of a workation, though, companies need to think outside of the box to customize a getaway that satisfies their unique goals, budget and culture – even if it’s for as little as a day. Click through our SlideShare presentation below for modern workation ideas that bend the rules and go beyond cabins and campfires.
A well-designed logo can transcend language and culture. Your logo should be clearly defined, unique so that it sets your company apart from the pack and powerful to convey your company’s brand and message. Your logo should be easily identifiable to your customers even without using text.

Research by experts in the psychology of terrorism has established that many potential terrorists share similar psychological attitudes. Particularly important among this is the desire to establish a secure sense of identity and belinging. Although there are an incredible number of differences betweens the two groups, in this respect, potential terrorists share something in common with those undergoing major life transitions.

Building Enterprise Products - For Moving Targets of Customer Needs and OutcomesMurali Erraguntala
Building new product is an exciting phase in the career of every Product Manager and each Product Manager would yearn for an opportunity to conceptualize, build and launch new products. The primary goal of every product manager is to ensure the commercial success of new product. Yet, only 50% of new products succeed [1]. New product development is definitely a challenge and Product Manager falters somewhere during the course of building new product. In order to provide some guidance to build new products, I decided to drop my experiences of building new product. Please note that some of the information listed as part of this guide may be biased because of my experiences of building and sustaining B2B HW product of an existing product line.
The primary reason for drafting the guide is to streamline my experiences of building a new product and share actionable points as part of the guide. I have learned about Product Management by reading books, blogs, articles etc and primarily through my role as a Product Manager. The guide is a way of giving back to my fraternity and sharing my experiences. I would be deeply humbled if someone finds the guide helpful and I am open to comments to make it better. The information shared in this guide is already available in my blog @ www.ProductGuy.in. I appreciate if you could visit my blog and drop your thoughts/comments.

Surprised? Prepare for investor questions!Alek Kowalczyk
Startup founders often are not well prepared for specific investor questions, while the questions are quite often very similar: how you calculated much money you really need; what is the margin; when BEP is expected? This presentation loosely gathers most common questions the founders are often unprepared for, and some suggestions.

What's Your Story? Creating Memorable General SessionsJeff Hurt
Conference attendees are collectors of experiences. You have the opportunity to design a conference narrative that uses narraphors: metaphors to tell a story. Your opening and closing general sessions need to help frame that narraphor with input and output frames. Then you can transform your conference attendees from story listeners to story tellers to story sharers and story people. So what's your conference story and narraphor?

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
