Title of Film:
Betty Lake
Plot Synopsis:
Our story follows Ricky Valentine, a corrupt cop who has a setup with a mob boss in which he \"
sells\"
criminals (in this case a misogynist male) to him. His partner Frankie, is against everything that ricky believes is right, therefore these characters are binary opposites. We are also introduced to Carmine \"
The Snake\"
Persico, who is effectively Ricky's partner in corruption. Ricky, comes to the rescue of Betty Lake, whom is stuck in a rocky relationship with a misogynist male, who often abuses his wife (Betty). As the story unfolds, we see that all is not as it seems on the streets of LA, and Frankie is about to prove everything that is wrong with the criminal justice system.
Opening Sequence:
Our opening sequence will start with our production teams logo being shown, then with a collage of images of our location being shown also with our production team being credited. There is the a pan shot of the vehicle we will be using which will contain a freeze frame to show our two main characters. There is then another freeze frame showing three more of our main characters followed with our casting director credits. The sequence then contains a sequence of quick shots followed by different credits by our creative team. Finally there is the title and then the action begins, the two cops visit Happy Daze for a quick drink off duty. The police then see Betty Lake being struck by a misogynist male and rush to her rescue, after some negotiation with “The Snake” the police hand him over to the mob boss and the sequence ends with “The Snake’s” fist flying towards the wife beaters face.
Creative Techniques:
One creative technique we will be using is in our first shot, we will be having a pan shot of a car driving past the camera, but when the car gets to a point there will be a freeze frame of the driver and the passenger with the names of the actors shown above the car. The car then drives off and the pan shot is completed. There will then be another freeze frame showing three more of our main characters with the actors names above the characters. There will then be a sequence of cross cuts, interrupted each time by a black screen with the creative teams names and job roles. Another one of our creative techniques will be a staged camera shot which will be a shallow focus shot from inside a car so that the audience can see what is going on outside of the car whilst also being able to hear the dialogue from inside the car
Funding/Distribution:
Our film we be produced by an independent film company, the film wont cost as much as a box office hit but we still wish to make a profit on this, bigger Film Noirs such as LA Confidential can make any amounts of money depending on how well it is advertised for the box office. Our film will only be advertised using viral marketing methods, which are low cost and unconventional to keep costs to a minimum, our film is rated 15 by the BBFC and therefore we wish to aim this film at a range of different audiences, advertising (with our production teams logo so people wonder what it is and therefore are urged to click) on such websites as, social networking sites and sports websites. We will have a trailer on youtube which will get more people to know about our film and we feel is the best way of viral marketing.
Pitch in 25 words:
The streets of LA seem to be safe with Ricky Valentine on watch but everything is not what it seems in the city of sins.
