Jesus knew he would be betrayed based on prophecies. Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus' twelve disciples, betrayed Jesus to the chief priests for 30 pieces of silver. On the night before his crucifixion, Jesus told his disciples one of them would betray him. Judas then went to the chief priests and led soldiers to arrest Jesus in the garden. All the disciples fled after Jesus was arrested, fulfilling prophecies of Jesus being abandoned.

Jesus Betrayed by Judas
1.
2. Betrayed:
BETRA'YED, pp. Delivered up in breach of
trust; violated by unfaithfulness; exposed
by breach of confidence; disclosed
contrary to expectation or intention; made
known; discovered. (Webster’s 1828)
3. Jesus
knew He
would be
Betrayed:
Matthew 17:22-23 NKJV
Now while they were staying
in Galilee, Jesus said to
them, "The Son of Man is
about to be betrayed into
the hands of men, (23) and
they will kill Him, and the
third day He will be raised
up." And they were
exceedingly sorrowful.
4. Jesus
knew He
would be
Betrayed:
Matt. 20:18-19 "Behold, we
are going up to Jerusalem,
and the Son of Man will be
betrayed to the chief priests
and to the scribes; and they
will condemn Him to
death, (19) and deliver
Him to the Gentiles to
mock and to scourge and to
crucify. And the third day
He will rise again."
5. Matthew 10:1-4 NKJV And when He had
called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave
them power over unclean spirits, to cast
them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness
and all kinds of disease. (2) Now the
names of the twelve apostles are these: first,
Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his
brother; James the son of Zebedee, and
John his brother;
6. Matthew 10:1-4 continued (3) Philip and
Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the
tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus,
and Lebbaeus, whose surname was
Thaddaeus; (4) Simon the Cananite, and
Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.
7. John 6:66-71 NKJV From that time many of
His disciples went back and walked with
Him no more. (67) Then Jesus said to the
twelve, "Do you also want to go away?" (68)
But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to
whom shall we go? You have the words of
eternal life. (69) Also we have come to
believe and know that You are the Christ,
the Son of the living God."
8. John 6:66-71 continued (70) Jesus answered
them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve,
and one of you is a devil?" (71) He spoke of
Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was
he who would betray Him, being one of the
twelve.
9. TUESDAY
EVENING,
APRIL 4,
30 AD:
Matthew 26:1-2 NKJV
Now it came to pass,
when Jesus had finished
all these sayings, that He
said to His disciples, (2)
“You know that after two
days is the Passover, and
the Son of Man will be
delivered up to be
crucified.”
10. Matthew 26:3-4 NKJV Then the chief
priests, the scribes, and the elders of the
people assembled at the palace of the high
priest, who was called Caiaphas, (4) and
plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill
Him.
11. Matthew 26:5 NKJV But they said, “Not
during the feast, lest there be an uproar
among the people.”
12. Matthew 26:14-16 NKJV Then one of the
twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the
chief priests (15) and said, "What are you
willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?"
And they counted out to him thirty pieces
of silver. (16) So from that time he sought
opportunity to betray Him.
(As prophesied in Zechariah 11:12; It was a
contemptuous price. That of a male or
female servant gored to death by an ox; Ex.
21:32. Equated to about 120 denarius.)
13. Jesus
knew He
would be
Betrayed
by Judas:
Thursday
Evening
Matthew 26:21 NKJV
Now as they were eating,
He said, "Assuredly, I say
to you, one of you will
betray Me."
14. Matthew 26:25
NKJV Then
Judas, who was
betraying Him,
answered and
said, "Rabbi, is it
I?" He said to
him, "You have
said it.”
15. Joh 13:23-30 NKJV Now there was leaning
on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom
Jesus loved. (24) Simon Peter therefore
motioned to him to ask who it was of whom
He spoke. (25) Then, leaning back on
Jesus' breast, he said to Him, "Lord, who is
it?" (26) Jesus answered, "It is he to whom
I shall give a piece of bread when I have
dipped it." And having dipped the bread,
He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of
Simon. (27) Now after the piece of bread,
16. John 13:23-30 continued Satan entered him.
Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do
quickly.” (28) But no one at the table knew
for what reason He said this to him. (29)
For some thought, because Judas had the
money box, that Jesus had said to him, "Buy
those things we need for the feast," or that
he should give something to the poor. (30)
Having received the piece of bread, he then
went out immediately. And it was night.
17. John 18:1-2 NKJV When
Jesus had spoken these
words, He went out with
His disciples over the Brook
Kidron, where there was a
garden, which He and His
disciples entered. (2) And
Judas, who betrayed Him,
also knew the place; for
Jesus often met there with
His disciples.
18. John 18:3 NKJV (3)
Then Judas, having
received a
detachment of
troops, and officers
from the chief
priests and
Pharisees, came
there with
lanterns, torches,
and weapons.
ESV, “band of
soldiers” from tower
of Antonia ranged in
number from 300 to
600 men.
19. Matthew 26:48-50 ESV Now the betrayer
had given them a sign, saying, "The one I
will kiss is the man; seize him." (49) And
he came up to Jesus at once and said,
"Greetings, Rabbi!" And he kissed him.
(50) Jesus said to him, "Friend, do what
you came to do." Then they came up and
laid hands on Jesus and seized him.
20. Matthew 26:31-35 NKJV Then Jesus said to
them, "All of you will be made to stumble
because of Me this night, for it is written: 'I
WILL STRIKE THE SHEPHERD, AND THE
SHEEP OF THE FLOCK WILL BE
SCATTERED.' (32) But after I have been
raised, I will go before you to Galilee." (33)
Peter answered and said to Him, "Even if all
21. Matthew 26:31-35 continued are made to
stumble because of You, I will never be
made to stumble." (34) Jesus said to him,
"Assuredly, I say to you that this night,
before the rooster crows, you will deny Me
three times." (35) Peter said to Him, "Even
if I have to die with You, I will not deny
You!" And so said all the disciples.
22. Matthew 26:56 NKJV But all this was
done that the Scriptures of the
prophets might be fulfilled." Then all
the disciples forsook Him and fled.
23. Adam Clarke wrote, “O what is man! How
little is even his utmost sincerity to be
depended on! Jesus is abandoned by all! -
even zealous Peter and loving John are
among the fugitives! Was ever master so
served by his scholars? Was ever parent so
treated by his children? Is there not as
much zeal and love among them all as
might make one martyr for God and truth?
24. Alas! no. He had but twelve who professed
inviolable attachment to him; one of these
betrayed him, another denied him with
oaths, and the rest run away and utterly
abandon him to his implacable enemies!
Are there not found among his disciples
still,
25. 1st. Persons who betray him and his cause?
2dly. Persons who deny him and his people?
3dly. Persons who abandon him, his people,
his cause, and his truth?
Reader! dost thou belong to any of these
classes?
26. Romans 3:23 NKJV for all have sinned
and fall short of the glory of God,
27. Romans 5:8 NKJV But God
demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
28. Romans 6:23 NKJV For the wages of sin is
death, but the gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord.
Gal 3:27 NKJV For as many of you as were
baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
