2. INTRODUCTION
 With over 30 years of legal experience, Jerome Stanley provides legal
counsel to clients in the sports industry at SAFE Sports Management, his
private practice in Los Angeles. To stay abreast of relevant industry issues,
W. Jerome Stanley maintains membership with the Black Entertainment
and Sports Law Association (BESLA).
Each year, BESLA holds its annual conference, an event that allows
members to engage in networking opportunities and professional and
business development. Last year, the 38th annual conference was held in
sunny Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

 Featured speakers at the 2018 BESLA annual conference included industry
leaders such as Debra Lee, the chairman and CEO emeritus of BET
Networks; Kevin Liles, the cofounder and CEO of 300 Entertainment; and
Paula Madison, the chairman and CEO of Madison Media Management.
Each speaker shared their expert insight on different areas in
entertainment and sports law. Topics included the new media ecosystem,
athletes and branding, the #MeToo movement, and NCAA amateurism. In
addition, participants were invited to attend film screenings and a variety
of entertainment events including the annual black-tie Gala Dinner and
Awards Program.
