Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

Most respondents do not believe AI will impact workforce size in 2024. However, some inhibitions still exist around AI accuracy and lack of understanding. Creatives primarily want to use AI to save time on mundane tasks and boost productivity.
Organizational culture includes values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits that influence employee behaviors and how people interpret those behaviors. It is important because culture can help or hinder a company's success. Some key aspects of Netflix's culture that help it achieve results include hiring smartly so every position has stars, focusing on attitude over just aptitude, and having a strict policy against peacocks, whiners, and jerks.

1: Alleenstaande/alleenstaande ouder JONGER dan 27 jaar
Op <invullen: datum melding UWV Werkbedrijf> heeft u zich bij UWV Werkbedrijf gemeld voor het
aanvragen van algemene bijstand op grond van de Wet werk en bijstand (WWB).
Omdat u jonger bent dan 27 jaar geldt voor u, vanaf de datum van melding bij het UWV, eerst een
termijn van vier weken voordat u een aanvraag algemene bijstand kunt indienen of dat een aanvraag
door ons in behandeling kan worden genomen (artikel 41, lid 4 WWB).
Op <invullen: datum ontvangst inname aanvraag na 4-weken zoektermijn> hebben wij uw aanvraag
ontvangen en in behandeling genomen.
2: Gezin beiden JONGER dan 27 jaar
Op <invullen: datum melding UWV Werkbedrijf> heeft u zich bij het UWV Werkbedrijf gemeld voor het
aanvragen van algemene bijstand op grond van de Wet werk en bijstand (WWB).
Omdat u beiden jonger bent dan 27 jaar geldt voor u, vanaf de datum van melding bij het UWV, eerst
een termijn van vier weken voordat u een aanvraag algemene bijstand kunt indienen of dat een
aanvraag door ons in behandeling kan worden genomen (artikel 41, lid 4 WWB).
Op <invullen: datum ontvangst inname aanvraag na 4-weken zoektermijn> hebben wij uw aanvraag
ontvangen en in behandeling genomen.
3. Overige aanvrager(s); geen zoektermijn
Op <invullen: datum melding UWV Werkbedrijf> heeft u zich bij het UWV Werkbedrijf gemeld voor de
aanvraag algemene bijstand op grond van de Wet werk en bijstand (WWB).

15. 2 Norm alleenstaande van 21 en ouder
U heeft recht op de norm voor een alleenstaande van 21 jaar of ouder.
Deze norm bedraagt € 668,21 per kalendermaand (artikel 20, lid 1 sub b WWB).
6 Norm gezin (gehuwden, beiden 18, 19 of 20 jaar + minderjarige kinderen)
U heeft recht op de norm voor een gezin, bestaande uit twee meerderjarige personen van 18, 19 of 20
jaar én ten laste komende kinderen.
De gezinsnorm bedraagt € 729,10 per kalendermaand (artikel 21, lid 2, sub a onder 2 WWB).
7 Norm gezin (gehuwden, 1 persoon 18, 19 of 20 jr en ander > 21 jr, géén minderjarige kinderen)
U heeft recht op de norm voor een gezin, bestaande uit twee meerderjarige personen, waarvan
één persoon 18, 19 of 20 jaar is en
de andere persoon 21 jaar of ouder maar jonger dan 65 jaar is.
De gezinsnorm bedraagt € 899,12 per kalendermaand (artikel 21, lid 2, sub b onder 1 WWB).

Verhoging/verlaging norm
1 Toeslag alleenstaande (ouder): 20%; geen kostendeling
U heeft recht op een toeslag van 20% van de gezinsnorm als bedoeld in artikel 21, lid 1 WWB, omdat u
de algemeen noodzakelijke kosten van het bestaan niet kunt delen met een ander (artikel 25 WWB,
artikel <invullen: artikelnr en benaming gemeentelijke toeslagenverordening>.
De hoogte van deze toeslag bedraagt € 267,28 per maand.
2 Toeslag alleenstaande (ouder): 10% (kostendeling)
U heeft recht op een toeslag van 10% van de gezinsnorm als bedoeld in artikel 21, lid 1 WWB, omdat u
de algemeen noodzakelijke kosten van het bestaan kunt delen met een ander die het hoofdverblijf in
dezelfde woning heeft (artikel 25 WWB, artikel <invullen: artikelnr en benaming gemeentelijke
toeslagenverordening>.
De hoogte van deze toeslag bedraagt € 133,64 per maand.

Korting van inkomsten
De hoogte van de algemene bijstand is het verschil tussen het inkomen en de bijstandsnorm (artikel 19,
lid 2 WWB).
Op de uitkering worden inkomsten in mindering gebracht waarover de alleenstaande, de alleenstaande
ouder met zijn ten laste komende kinderen of het gezin beschikt of redelijkerwijs kan beschikken
(artikelen 31 en 32 WWB), waaronder:
inkomsten uit of in verband met arbeid;
inkomsten uit vermogen of uit huur/onderhuur of het hebben van kostgangers;
inkomsten uit sociale zekerheidsuitkeringen;
uitkeringen tot levensonderhoud (partner- en kinderalimentatie);
heffingskortingen van de Belastingdienst als bedoeld in hoofdstuk 8 van de Wet inkomstenbelasting
2001.
Inkomsten uit arbeid of uitkering (werkloosheid of arbeidsongeschiktheid) van een ten laste komend kind
vanaf 16 jaar worden in aanmerking genomen wanneer deze inkomsten meer bedragen dan € 827,00 per
maand (artikel 31, lid 2, sub h WWB).

16. Vakantietoeslag
Van de uitkering wordt 5% gereserveerd als vakantietoeslag (artikel 19, lid 3 WWB).
De vakantietoeslag wordt in de maand mei uitbetaald of binnen drie maanden na beëindiging van de
uitkering.
Vermogen
1 Vermogensgrens alleenstaande
De voor u geldende vermogensgrens bedraagt € 5.685,00 (artikel 34, lid 3, sub a WWB).
Uw vermogen hebben wij bij aanvang van de bijstand vastgesteld op € <invullen: bedrag vastgesteld
vermogen> (artikel 34 lid 1 en lid 2, sub b WWB).
Het resterend vrij te laten vermogen bedraagt € < invullen: bedrag resterend vermogen>.

VERPLICHTINGEN
Inlichtingenverplichting en medewerkingsverplichting
U bent verplicht direct alles te melden dat van invloed is of kan zijn voor de arbeidsinschakeling en voor
het recht op bijstand. Bewijsstukken dient u direct aan ons te verstrekken.
U moet ook alle medewerking verlenen die nodig is om de wet te kunnen uitvoeren (artikel 17, lid 1 en
lid 2 WWB).
Dit betekent onder andere dat u:
wijzigingen in uw persoonlijke, gezins– of financiële situatie direct doorgeeft;
ons direct meldt indien een ten laste komende kind vanaf 16 jaar inkomsten uit arbeid of uitkering
ontvangt dat meer bedraagt dan € 827,00 per maand (artikel 31, lid 2, sub h WWB).
ons direct meldt indien een meerderjarig inwonend kind met studiefinanciering (WSF 2000) of een
tegemoetkoming (WTOS) een inkomen ontvangt dat meer bedraagt dan € 1.059,49 per maand.
Etc.
Plicht tot arbeidsinschakeling en tegenprestatie
De Wet werk en bijstand is er op gericht dat zo spoedig mogelijk weer zelf in het eigen levensonderhoud
kan worden voorzien.
Daarom geldt voor iedere belanghebbende van 18 jaar tot 65 jaar, vanaf de dag van melding bij het UWV
van de bijstandsaanvraag, een aantal verplichtingen (artikel 9, lid 1 WWB).
De verplichtingen gelden ook voor alle meerderjarig inwonende gezinsleden, jonger dan 27 jaar, die géén
regulier bekostigd onderwijs volgen (artikel 9, lid 3 WWB).
Het betreft de navolgende verplichtingen:
a. u probeert algemeen geaccepteerde arbeid te vinden;
b. u aanvaardt algemeen geaccepteerde arbeid dat u wordt aangeboden;
c. u staat als werkzoekende ingeschreven bij het UWV Werkbedrijf en u zorgt ervoor dat u ingeschreven
blijft staan;
d. u werkt mee aan een onderzoek naar uw mogelijkheden tot arbeidsinschakeling én, indien van
toepassing, u werkt mee aan het opstellen, uitvoeren en evalueren van een plan van aanpak als
bedoeld in artikel 44a WWB;
e. u maakt gebruik van een door ons aangeboden voorziening, waaronder begrepen sociale activering,
gericht op arbeidsinschakeling;
f. u verricht naar vermogen de door ons opgedragen onbeloonde maatschappelijk nuttige activiteiten
die verricht worden naast of in aanvulling op reguliere arbeid.

17. 1. Tijdelijke ontheffing; dringende redenen
Wij verlenen <invullen: u of naam van persoon die ontheven wordt> ontheffing van de verplichting die
vorenstaand is genoemd onder <invullen: verplichting a – f)>.
De reden hiervoor is dat er sprake is van dringende redenen die deze ontheffing noodzakelijk maakt.
De ontheffing wordt verleend voor de duur van maximaal één jaar, gerekend vanaf de ingangsdatum van
de uitkering (artikel 9, lid 2 WWB).
U ontvangt te zijner tijd nader bericht.
2. Tijdelijke ontheffing; alleenstaande ouder (zorgwens)
Wij verlenen u, <invullen naam alleenstaande ouder>, ontheffing van de verplichting die vorenstaand
genoemd is onder a, b en c.
De reden hiervoor is dat u een verzoek om ontheffing heeft ingediend vanwege de volledige zorg voor
een ten laste komend kind, jonger dan 5 jaar.
De ontheffing wordt eenmalig verleend voor maximaal vijf jaar en geldt zolang (het jongste) kind de
leeftijd van 5 jaar nog niet heeft bereikt (artikel 9, lid 2 WWB en artikel 9a, lid 1 t/m 4 WWB).
Aan de overige vorenvermelde verplichtingen (d, e en f) moet u dus wel voldoen.
Er wordt door ons, binnen zes maanden na ontvangst van uw verzoek, een plan van aanpak opgesteld
voor het invullen van de voorziening als bedoeld in artikel 9, lid 1, sub b WWB.
U krijgt hiervoor binnenkort een uitnodiging.

Gevolgen niet nakomen opgelegde verplichtingen
Als wij vaststellen dat u niet heeft voldaan aan één of meerdere van de opgelegde verplichtingen, dan
kunnen wij besluiten:
de aan u verleende bijstand te verlagen (afstemming),
het recht op bijstand te herzien of in te trekken en/of
de ten onrechte of teveel verstrekte bijstand van u terug te vorderen.
Wijze van betaling
1 uitbetaling aan alleenstaande/alleenstaande ouder;
De bijstand wordt door ons overgemaakt naar het door u opgegeven bank- of girorekeningnummer.
2 gehuwden: uitbetaling in 2 gelijke delen

3 gehuwden: uitbetaling op verzoek naar één rekening
U heeft gezamenlijk verzocht de bijstand over te maken naar één rekeningnummer.
De bijstand wordt door ons overgemaakt naar het door u opgegeven bank- of girorekeningnummer

Wijziging: overgangsrecht WWB voor alleenstaande ouder

U ontvangt algemene bijstand op grond van de Wet werk en bijstand (WWB).
Met ingang van 1 januari 2012 is de Wet werk en bijstand (WWB) gewijzigd.
Omdat u op 31 december 2011 al algemene bijstand ontving, gelden niet alle wijzigingen direct per 1
januari 2012 voor u.
Huishoudinkomen
Vanaf 1 januari 2012 geldt de huishoudinkomenstoets in de WWB.
Zijn er bij u meerderjarige bloed- en of aanverwanten in de eerste graad inwonend?
Dan moet met inkomsten en vermogensbestanddelen van al deze personen rekening worden gehouden.
Dit zijn: (adoptie)ouders, (adoptie)kind, stiefkind, meerderjarig voormalig pleegkind, de
partner/echtgenoot van het meerderjarige inwonende eigen kind of stiefkind, (adoptie)ouders van
partner, (adoptie)kind van partner, schoonzoon/schoondochter.
Wij beoordelen uw situatie in het eerste halfjaar van 2012.
Alle meerderjarige inwonende bloed- en aanverwanten zijn verplicht alle informatie te verstrekken en
medewerking te verlenen die wij nodig hebben voor het uitvoeren van de wet (artikel 78s WWB).
De wijziging gaat voor u gelden vanaf 1 juli 2012.
Tegenprestatie
Vanaf 1 januari 2012 kunnen wij van ieder rechthebbend meerderjarig persoon die algemene bijstand
ontvangt vragen om een tegenprestatie te verrichten. Dit in ruil voor de uitkering die wordt ontvangen.
Deze tegenprestatie zal bestaan uit het verrichten van maatschappelijk nuttige activiteiten voor de
samenleving.
Deze verplichting zal u bij beschikking worden opgelegd.
Indien van u toekomstig een tegenprestatie zal worden gevraagd, dan bent u verplicht daaraan uw
medewerking te verlenen. Ook wanneer u bijvoorbeeld al deeltijdwerk verricht.
Vrijlating inkomsten
De vrijlating van inkomsten uit heffingskortingen voor een alleenstaande ouder met een kind jonger dan 5
jaar, te weten de vermeerdering van de alleenstaande ouderkorting en/of de inkomensafhankelijke
combinatiekorting, is vanaf 1 januari 2012 uit de wet verdwenen.
Per 1 januari 2012 is er wel een nieuwe vrijlatingsregeling voor alleenstaande ouders opgenomen.
