Beowulf, Grendel and the fate of mankind
- 1. Travel back in time to Sjaelland Island, Denmark: 6 June 452 A.D. The day on which Beowulf is to battle Grendel from which the first epic poem in English is born.
- 2. The Same Date. Six Different Years. The Time Patrol must simultaneously send an agent back to each 24 hour bubble to battle the Shadow’s attempt to change our history. Failure means annihilation of our timeline.
- 3. For his 24-hour bubble in time, Roland arrives in King Hrothgar’s famous hall, Heorot, abandoned after Grendel’s ravages. Roland’s Mission: D-Day
- 4. Unfortunately for Roland, he arrives just as Grendel attacks and he finds his weapons are useless against the monster, which has been sent by the Shadow.
- 5. As Grendel appears ready to kill Beowulf, Roland finds an unlikely ally, a Jager (hunter) whose past is as dark as Roland’s. And who isn’t from this timeline.
- 6. “... the other, warped in the shape of a man, moves beyond the pale bigger than any man, an unnatural birth called Grendel by the country people in former days.” Roland’s Mission: D-Day
- 7. As Roland tries to keep Beowulf alive, and the story to occur as it is laid out in the epic poem, he finds the stakes are much higher than simply a poem. If he fails, the world ends.
