King Hrothgar was the ruler of Herot, which was being terrorized by the monster Grendel. Grendel was killing and eating the people of Herot. This brought the hero Beowulf to Herot to defeat Grendel where others had failed. The section introduces the key characters of Grendel as the tormentor and Beowulf as the one strong enough to face Grendel and save Herot.

2. In the Wrath of Grendel, a couple very important characters are introduced, such as King Hrothgar, and Grendel. King Hrothgar was the King of Herot, which was the place that Grendel was tormenting. Grendel was the monster who was killingand tearing Herot apart. He also was the reason that Beowulf came to Herot. The monster they call Grendel is murdering innocent men and women of Herot. Herot lives in fear because of Grendel. Even the warriors of Herot could not even come close to defeating this monster. This section mainly focused on the torture that Grendel brought to Herot. This section is very important to the story because it shows the hard times that Herot is facing and that is what brings Beowulf into the story. 3. The most important character of this piecfe of literature is intoduced in this section. His name, of course, is Beowulf. Beowulf gathered a group Geat ,men and took a ship all the way to Herot. The importance of this section is very high considering that the main character is introduced. A lot of this section describes Beowulf’s journey to Herot and why he came. The rest of it is Beowulf and his men meeting the people of Herot and talking about what their problems are. The Coming of Beowulf
