The park once had active tennis courts but fell into disrepair as the neighborhood changed. By the 1970s, the entire park was covered in asphalt and the basketball courts were rarely used due to bent rims. There were baseball games played by children despite the asphalt surface. A playground structure and storage building were later added but the playground was destroyed by arson in 2005. The park was separated from the adjacent school and was an area for drug use and crime until renovations.
