Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

5. What is it?
Resin is a material that is very similar to
plastic. It is a semi-solid natural and synthetic
compound that when hardened becomes
somewhat like a plastic material. There is a
chemical bond that actually hold together the
organic resin which is why resin is so easy and
versatile to work with. Resin can also be
added with other decorative materials such as
resin pigment, glitter, dried flowers and so
much more.
6. 2 Kinds Of Resin
The first kind of resin is Natural Resin.
As said earlier, resin is a kind of plant
secretion and are yellowish brown.
Plants release resin as a defence
system to trap or repel pests with the
help of it stickiness. Of course, natural
resin can also be hardened, but that
won’t be for another long time as it
takes resin about two to ten million
years to cure or harden.
The second kind of resin is Synthetic
Resin. Much opposing the natural resin,
synthetic ones are made in a lab. They
might look and cure the same as
natural resin but their chemical
structure and properties are very
different. Synthetic resins are more
widely used for commercials as they
don’t take nearly as long to cure. Even
the daintiest little pieces of jewellery
can be made from synthetic resin.
7. Epoxy resin is probably the most popular and easy to
use type of resin. This is one of the some kinds of
resin that can go up to crystal clear level of
transparency. This is very highly recommended for
beginners as well as it is so versatile and durable to
work with. You can easily avail or procure it from any
online website for reasonable price along with the
molds and can be decorated with pigment, glitter,
flowers etc:
Epoxy or Casting Resin
9. Materials and Tools
Making Resin is like baking, until and unless you get the
measurements right, you cannot achieve the right chemical
reaction. It will be under very little circumstances that resin
should be used alone as it is usually mixed with small charms,
pigment powders etc: There aren’t many things you need but
these are the basics.
● Epoxy or casting resin (The main thing)
● Decorative elements (To add color and texture)
● Molds or forms (To shape the resin)
● Surface to work on (A plain surface so it doesn’t react)
● Disposable cups, gloves and sticks (For safety)
11. The Techniques
In this part of the presentation, I will only list
the top 5 techniques that are heavily used. A
you can see, there are some evidences of the
widely used techniques.(The evidences will
be shown at the end of this( presentation)
● Layering (Waves)
● Free Pouring (Canvas Art)
● Straight Coating (Clear)
● Inclusions (Shaker Charms)
● Molding Resin (Specific molds)
13. Safety Methods
Work in a well
ventilated area
Use the right
resin
Wear gloves
Store tools
safely and
separately
Always measure
everything
Wear Protective
clothing
