College in Los Angeles
Transferred to New York City to
attend Columbia University
Moved to Chicago and entered
Harvard Law School- there he
became the first African
American to be elected President
of Prestigious Law Review.
He served in Illinois State Senate
from 1997 to 2004 while he
taught at University of Chicago
Law School.
In 2008 he was elected as the 44th
President of the United States;
the first African American
President in history.
4. President Barack Obama
On his very first day in office, he signed
the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act which made
it easier for workers to file pay
discrimination lawsuits.
One of his biggest legislative victories
included the Affordable Care Act, also
known as “Obamacare”. This promised
healthcare to 30 million uninsured
Americans.
He ended the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy
and proclaimed his support for marriage
equality in 2012.
5. A More Perfect Union
Speech written in March 2008
All about the unification of the people of America and
promoting togetherness in order to overcome
challenges and create “A More Perfect Union”.
Encourages Americans to put aside racial issues for the
good of America.
“This was one of the tasks we set forth at the beginning
of this campaign- to continue to long march of those
who came before us, a march for more free, more caring
and more prosperous America” (Obama 1411).

He is left-handed.
He gets his hair cut once a week.
He would’ve liked to be an architect if he were not a politician.
He can’t grow facial hair, only whiskers.

His name means “one who is blessed” in Swahili.
