In June 1962 attend graduate school at Harvard University . His parents divorced in March 1964.Obama Sr. returned to Kenya in 1964 where he remarried; he visited Barack in Hawaii only once, in 1971. He died in an automobile accident in 1982 and Ann died on 1995 for Cancer

Early Education  in Indonesia, the first a At age 6, Obama attended schools Catholic School and later a public school. In 1971, at age 10, Barack Obama moved to Hawaii to his grandparents. He was on the second string of the state champion basketball team his senior year. He wrote a poem for the schools literary magazine, Ka Wai Ola.
  11. 11. College Education Then Obama moved to Los Angeles in 1979 to attend Occidental College. In February 1981, he made his first public speech, calling for Occidentals divestment from South Africa. Then transferred to Columbia University in New York, which he graduated from in 1983.

Non-Political EmploymentIn 1984 Obama worked as a writer and financialanalyst for Business International Corporation.He also served as a professor at the University ofChicago Law School for twelve years as a Lecturerfrom 1992 to 1996, and as a Senior Lecturer from1996 to 2004, teaching constitutional law.
  13. 13. 1984-1988, Community Organizer• In 1984, Obama was hired by the New York Public Interest Research Group.• He also was paid just under $10,000 annually as a full-time organizer for Harlems City College to mobilize student volunteers.• From 1985-88, Obama worked as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago.• He helped Loretta Herron gain city approval for a local community job center.

Obama as a Lawyer He went on to earn his law degree from Harvard in 1991. He became the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. Returned to Chicago to practice as a civil rights lawyer and teach constitutional law. In 1991, Obama accepted a two-year position as Visiting Law and Government Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School to work on his first book.
