This document defines and discusses two Greek words: baptizo and bapto. Baptizo means to make fully wet and was used in the New Testament to refer to ceremonial cleansing, especially Christian baptism. Bapto is a primary verb that means to whelm or cover wholly with a fluid.

from a derivative bapto; to
make whelmed (i.e. fully wet);

ceremonial ablution (cleansing
of the body), especially
