Nine Oakland University students made a difference by volunteering their time to raise money and collect food for Baldwin Center visitors. Dishing Out to the "D" raised $430 after hosting three fundraising events and spent six hours at the Baldwin Center on two occassions serving soup to the less fortunate, organizing the church, and putting food and clothes into boxes. 1. Dishing Out the "D" consists of nine Oakland University
students who want to make a difference and assist the
Baldwin Center with accomplishing their mission, which is
feeding, providing clothes, educating, and empowering the
people that live in the Pontiac community.

2. The Baldwin Center
Who do they help?
The Baldwin Center assists people who are: on fixed
incomes, unemployed, and homeless. They also help
children.
What do people need?
-food
-clothes
-toilet paper
What's the Baldwin Center's mission?
The Baldwin Center wants to feed, clothe, educate and
empower the men, women, and children in the community
of Pontiac.

3. How many meals did they serve?
In 2010, the Baldwin Center served 65,290 meals and 561
families received four weeks worth of food.
What services do they have?
-Clothing Closet: People can browse at the clothing
closet. The clothes are absolutely free! In September, the
clothing closet had 1,245 shoppers.
-Focus Hope Delivery Program: They provide food for
the elderly. In September, 143 low-income seniors
received commodity food packages to their homes.
-Alcoholic Anonymous Meetings: In September, 13
Alcoholics Anonymous meetings were held.
-Hispanic Education for Life Skills Project: In
September, they helped 80 students learn English as a
second language.
-After School Program: It runs 5 days a week and it's
free! It features: academics, health and fitness and other
enrichment activities and an evening meal.
-Kennedy School: The students are involved in custodial
and gardening programs.
-Yoga Classes: They have yoga classes every

Many people will have food for the holidays and feel like
people actually care about them.

Dishing Out the "D" wants to validate the residents of
Pontiac. We want them to feel like they are important. If
