The Assignment Due 1/29/09 Find a company, using a scholarly article, that was able to somehow improve employee performance.  Write a short paper on the company including it’s mission, it’s purpose, and what it did to motivate the employees  Cite your work.
Scholarly? What?  Time Magazine Journal of Management Wall Street Journal Which of the above is a scholarly publication and what does that even mean?
Journal of Management Articles are based on a hypothesis (idea) that the author(s) will seek to prove or disprove through research.  Tests and research can be duplicated by others to prove its validity Articles and their research are tested by other researchers before publication. Not necessarily current events
Primary Source?  A scholarly article is NOT a primary source.  A primary source is usually something like a newspaper or a magazine. It is an article that is essentially a first hand account of “what happened”.

Trade Publications?  Trade as in Industry, not trading spaces.  Current topics and news that impact specific industries. These are not scholarly articles, they are like newspapers that only a person involved in the industry would care to read.

Find a Company…  Pick a PUBLIC company – they have to provide information to the public.  Don’t have any names? Don’t know if it’s public or private?  Do you have an industry in mind?  Airlines? Coffee? Cars? Computers?
