This document provides guidance to a student on an assignment to write a short paper about a company that improved employee performance. It discusses what qualifies as a scholarly source and recommends the student select a public company to research. It also provides tips on searching the library database and citing sources correctly in the paper. The student is advised to use trade publications and newspapers to find company details and then search the academic databases to find a scholarly case study on that company's organizational behavior changes.

4. Journal of Management Articles are based on a hypothesis (idea) that the author(s) will seek to prove or disprove through research. Tests and research can be duplicated by others to prove its validity Articles and their research are tested by other researchers before publication. Not necessarily current events

5. Primary Source? A scholarly article is NOT a primary source. A primary source is usually something like a newspaper or a magazine. It is an article that is essentially a first hand account of “what happened”.

7. Trade Publications? Trade as in Industry, not trading spaces. Current topics and news that impact specific industries. These are not scholarly articles, they are like newspapers that only a person involved in the industry would care to read.
