The PPN began developing work plans in May 2016 by identifying key priorities at a plenary meeting. These priorities were further developed at Pillar meetings. The work plans complement the PPN's core work of representing members on council committees, conducting consultations and submissions, and communicating with member groups. The Community Pillar priorities include building group capacity through training, resources, and networking. The Environment Pillar focuses on river management plans, planning issues, and heritage projects. The Social Inclusion Pillar aims to strengthen community development, promote discussion on poverty issues, and improve transparency.
