A 2:2 hybrid defence uses 2 players in man defence and 2 in zone defence. It aims to stop frontal offences by closing down the driving and shooting lanes. Strengths include good coverage of hoops, passers, and driving lanes. Weaknesses include susceptibility to fast passes out wide and cuts from angles. Drills focus on chaser spacing and positioning, and having beaters exchange and press out to force turnovers.

4. A hybrid defence is one where some
players are asked to operate zonally
whilst others are working 1:1
This can take many different forms-
perhaps the opposition has a star
player that you need to mark out of the
game so one player works 1:1 whilst the
rest play a zone defence
In the case of a 2:2 hybrid, 2 players are
asked to work 1:1 whilst the other 2 play a
zene around the back side of the pitch

How is it set up?

6. The 2 players at the top of the formation
are working as a pair to cover the
primary ball handler and any secondary
player at half-way.
The player nearest the ball is POINT with
the partner sinking slightly to be a help
defender (HALF) whilst still in a position
to cover the driving lane of the support
chaser.
The position and roles flip if a lateral
pass is made by the offense at the top

defence
They are zoning the hoop on
the side of the more dangerous
receiver.
They need to be able to block a
shot on their hoop, whilst also
stepping out towards their
mark if they get the ball

16. How to drill this tactic
1.Current Meta defence as it Stops drive and shooting and 4 person passing offenses are
not prevalent in the UK
2.Put players in position in defence on offence. Start to move the ball laterally at the top of
the pitch so that point and half get used to stepping up and back. (spacing should be that
for a driver to run to hoops their direct lane should have to travel within the arm span of
the 2 defenders.
3.Add beaters in so defence can get used to absorbing pressure in their pivot. Beaters
need to be in the mindset of trading and then looking to press out to force the turnover
4.Finally allow offence to throw the ball deep. At which point keeper and hoop zone become
new point and half. Previous P&H drop back and take on keeper role and hoop zone looking
to intercept an throwback
