Avebury village is located in Wiltshire, England and is unique because it is surrounded by a large prehistoric stone circle dating back nearly 5,000 years. The stone circle at Avebury is one of the largest in the UK. Though the village itself did not begin until Saxon times, people have inhabited the area for over 4,000 years. Today, Avebury village lies within the stone circle and contains historical buildings like the Church of St. James from Saxon times and the Alexander Keiller Museum that provides information about the archaeological sites.

The village of Viscri, Weiskirich in the Saxon dialect, is located in the south-eastern part of Transylvania, about 8km (5mi) from the town of Bunesti, the last one been located on E60, 35km (22mi) from the famous Sighisoara.
Once you have passed by the town of Bunesti you’ll drive on a bad road flanked by the Transylvanian hills. It was built by the ethnic German Transylvanian Saxon community at a time when the area belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary. Initially Roman Catholic, it became Lutheran following the Reformation.
Viscri is a small village, with no more than 500 inhabitants, from which only about 27 are Saxons. People say that Viscri hide the most picturesque fortified church of the Saxons from Transylvania.
Unlike other Transylvanian fortified churches, Viscri was built around 1100 by the Szekler population and taken over by Saxon colonists in 1185. This explains why this unique gothic church displays a plain straight ceiling rather than a traditional vaulted one. In the 14th century, the eastern section was rebuilt and around 1525, the first fortification walls with towers were added.
Viscri is also known due to the great job in restoring done by the Mihai Eminescu Trust, the foundation patroned by The Prince of Wales. What is less known is that the work and the efforts of the foundation covers not only Viscri, but many other Saxon villages in Transylvania.
Do not miss the Museum of the Church which has many interesting objects. There are furniture and typical tools of ancient crafts. And the few original clothes reveal amazing, charming decoration.
Enjoy the view from the Tower. Looking all arround from the tower, you will see the tiled roofs of the village between the trees and all the natural surrounding.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. Map of Wiltshire showing the location of Avebury
How many villages are surrounded by their very own prehistoric
stone circle? Avebury is special -Much of the village is encircled
by the prehistoric monument complex also known as Avebury.
The village of Avebury in Wiltshire has given it’s name to one of
the greatest stone circles in the United Kingdom. The village is
located a few miles away from the Ridgeway and in close
proximity to Silbury Hill and many other ancient places.
3. Avebury, located about 28 miles from Salisbury or 20 miles from Castle Combe, is
fascinating. Now in the care of England's National Trust, Avebury contains three stone
circles. One huge outer ring, about a quarter of a mile across, and two smaller inner rings of
standing stones that date back nearly 5000 years ago.
Avebury is part of an extraordinary set of Neolithic and Bronze
Age ceremonial sites that seemingly formed a vast sacred
landscape.
4. Although the population of the area goes back millennia the actual
village of Avebury did not commence until Saxon times and was originally
built to the west of the present village. Prior to the Domesday Book it was
called Kennet. The name is retained by the River Kennet.
5. The site is still in habitation, the village of
Avebury lies around and within this monument.
That means for a staggering four and half
thousand years and more, perhaps even six
thousand years, people have lived in this
locality, although the village itself did not
appear until the Saxons built it. Certainly the
Romans before them liked the spot.
The village itself holds much of interest
including the church of St. James which has
a long history going back to Saxon times.
Within is a rare example of a medieval rood-
loft once hidden but re-discovered in 1810. It
also contains a notable font believed to be of
Saxon origin and later adorned with some
interesting carvings during the Norman
period. There is also a fine manor house
alongside which is the Alexander Keiller
Museum. This contains detailed information
regarding the archaeology of the monuments
and has many fascinating artifacts from the
area on display. Supplementing the Keiller
museum is the Barn Gallery which also
contains some interesting "hands on" exhibits
and other information supplied by the
National Trust under whose care the
monuments now fall.

explore this outstanding landscape and it’s
fascinating monuments.
