Applying for an Australia Awards scholarship
Australia Awards scholarships in Indonesia
Australia’s international development assistance in
Indonesia helps promote prosperity, reduce poverty, and
enhance political stability.
Australia Awards are prestigious international awards offered
by the Australian Government to the next generation of
global leaders for development. Through study and
research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to
drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links
with Australia.
Applicants are assessed on their professional and personal
qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their
potential to impact on development challenges in Indonesia.
Applications are strongly encouraged from women, people
with disability and other marginalised groups.
Priority fields of study
The priority areas of study relate directly to the Australian
Government’s Covid-19 Development Response Plan for
Indonesia are:
• Health Security
• Stability
• Economic Recovery

Level of study
Australia Awards scholarships provide citizens of Indonesia
with the opportunity to obtain a masters or PhD/doctorate
degree from an Australian tertiary institution.
Awards will be offered for commencement in 2023 within
two main categories: Targeted and Non-Targeted
Categories.
Applicants from the Targeted category include:
• Geographic focus areas (GFAs): any candidate
working in one of the provinces/geographic focus
areas nominated under the GoA/GoI development
partnership program. These are: Aceh, East Nusa
Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Papua, West Papua,
Maluku and North Maluku
• Government of Indonesia (GoI) agencies: any
candidate from a government agency (including
central, provincial or local), but not extending to
employees of state-owned enterprises or state
universities.
Australia Awards benefits
Australia Awards scholarships are offered for the minimum
period necessary for the individual to complete the
academic program specified by the Australian education
institution, including any preparatory training.
Scholarship recipients will receive the following:
• return air travel
• a one-off establishment allowance on arrival
• full tuition fees
• contribution to living expenses
• introductory academic program
• overseas student health cover for the duration of the
scholarship
• supplementary academic support
• fieldwork allowance for research students and masters
by coursework which has a compulsory fieldwork
component.
Eligibility criteria
Australia Awards applicants must meet all eligibility
requirements detailed in the Australia Awards Scholarships
Policy Handbook, available at: dfat.gov.au/about-
us/publications/Pages/australia-awards-scholarships-

Country-specific conditions
In addition to the eligibility requirements, candidates from
Indonesia must also meet the following conditions:
• be applying for courses that fall within the areas of
development priority (see “Priority fields of study”
above)
• have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.9
from undergraduate if applying for a masters or from
masters if applying for a doctorate/PhD. For applicants
from GFAs and other exceptional candidates (to be
determined by DFAT on a case-by-case basis,
including people with disabilities), have a GPA equal
to or higher than 2.75
• for masters applicants, have an English language
proficiency of at least 5.5 in IELTS (or 525 in paper
based TOEFL or 69 in internet based TOEFL or 46 in
Pearson PTE). For applicants from GFAs and other
exceptional candidates (to be determined by DFAT on
a case-by-case basis, including people with
disabilities) have IELTS 5.0 (or 500 in paper-based
TOEFL or 59 in internet based TOEFL or 38 in
Pearson PTE)
• for PhD applicants, have an English language
proficiency of at least 6.0 in IELTS (or 550 in paper
based TOEFL or 79 in internet based TOEFL or 54 in
Pearson PTE)
• The IELTS or TOEFL or PTE result must be current (a
test result obtained within 2 years at closing date of
application will be considered current). No other
English language test (including TOEFL prediction
test) results will be accepted
• provide contact details of test centre for verification of
TOEFL test results
• already hold an undergraduate degree, if applying for
a masters
• already have a masters, if applying for a
doctorate/PhD. Specialisation/professional certificate
is not considered a masters’ degree
• answer all relevant questions on the application form.
Additionally:
• If applying for a doctorate/PhD, applicants will be
restricted to staff of universities, higher education
institutions, research institutes, key policy makers and
targeted candidates in other agencies associated with
DFAT activities
• It is highly desirable for doctorate/PhD applicants to
have a letter of support from an Australian university
for their proposed field of study.
Application dates
For study commencing in Australia in 2023:
Opening date: 1 February 2022
Closing date: 29 April 2022 (11.59PM AEST)
Applications and/or supporting documents received after the
closing date will not be considered.
The application process
Online applications
Apply online through OASIS at https://oasis.dfat.gov.au
When applying online, all essential supporting documents
must be uploaded on OASIS to meet the specific
requirements for Indonesia.
We advise applicants submitting online to do so well before
the closing date. The online application facility (OASIS)
experiences peak usage in the days leading up to the
closing date and applicants may experience delays.
Applicants who apply online (through OASIS) must also
complete an additional form ‘the Additional Information
for Online Application Form’ at Australia Awards in
Indonesia website:

Supporting documents
Applicants must submit all of the relevant supporting
documents listed in the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy
Handbook.
Applicants must also provide the following documents to
meet the specific requirements for Indonesia:

Certified
Birth certificate No
Proof of citizenship i.e. KTP, SIM, passport No
Current Curriculum Vitae No
All official degrees, certificates, diplomas and
their transcripts
Yes*
Current (original) IELTS, or TOEFL, or PTE
result. Result must have been obtained
within 2 years at closing date of application.
TOEFL prediction test result is NOT
accepted.

Academic Reference from S2 Supervisor for
Doctorate candidates

*Must be certified by: a notary; or the official records
department of the institution that originally issued the
document/s.
The selection process
• Applications will be shortlisted after eligibility checking.
• Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted
• The selection process includes an interview. Applicants
will be assessed against the following criteria:
- academic competence
- potential outcome, specifically the contribution to
development outcomes in Indonesia
- professional and personal leadership attributes
including relevant work experience.
• Successful candidates will be notified no later than
August 2022.
• Awardee travel will be subject to meeting the
requirements imposed by the Australian Government, as
determined by the Department of Education, Skills and
Australia Awards scholarships information for study commencing in 2023
Employment, and must meet the requirements imposed
by State and Territory governments.
Australia for ASEAN Scholarship
Ten students will be selected for an Australia for ASEAN
Scholarship, a prestigious enhanced award announced to
mark the Australia-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic
Partnership, and to advance the ASEAN Outlook on the
Indo-Pacific (AOIP). This is available at Masters level only.
Selected students will also participate in an Indo-Pacific
Emerging Leaders Program, which will provide a range of
learning, networking and development opportunities.
The priority areas of study for an Australia for ASEAN
Scholarship are the four key areas of the AOIP:
• Maritime
• Connectivity
• Economic
• Sustainable Development Cooperation

Preparatory training
Successful applicants will be required to attend:
• full time (Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm) pre-departure
training in Indonesia prior to studying in Australia
• course counselling
• pre-departure briefing
• university’s Introductory Academic Program
• other required preparatory study on arrival in Australia.

Australia Awards scholarships information for study commencing in 2023 Indonesia Applying for an Australia Awards scholarship Australia Awards scholarships in Indonesia Australia’s international development assistance in Indonesia helps promote prosperity, reduce poverty, and enhance political stability. Australia Awards are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia. Applicants are assessed on their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development challenges in Indonesia. Applications are strongly encouraged from women, people with disability and other marginalised groups. Priority fields of study The priority areas of study relate directly to the Australian Government’s Covid-19 Development Response Plan for Indonesia are: • Health Security • Stability • Economic Recovery Detailed information on priority areas of study can be found at: www.australiaawardsindonesia.org Level of study Australia Awards scholarships provide citizens of Indonesia with the opportunity to obtain a masters or PhD/doctorate degree from an Australian tertiary institution. Awards will be offered for commencement in 2023 within two main categories: Targeted and Non-Targeted Categories. Applicants from the Targeted category include: • Geographic focus areas (GFAs): any candidate working in one of the provinces/geographic focus areas nominated under the GoA/GoI development partnership program. These are: Aceh, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Papua, West Papua, Maluku and North Maluku • Government of Indonesia (GoI) agencies: any candidate from a government agency (including central, provincial or local), but not extending to employees of state-owned enterprises or state universities. Australia Awards benefits Australia Awards scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian education institution, including any preparatory training. Scholarship recipients will receive the following: • return air travel • a one-off establishment allowance on arrival • full tuition fees • contribution to living expenses • introductory academic program • overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship • supplementary academic support • fieldwork allowance for research students and masters by coursework which has a compulsory fieldwork component. Australia Awards scholarships information for study commencing in 2023 Country-specific conditions In addition to the eligibility requirements, candidates from Indonesia must also meet the following conditions: • be applying for courses that fall within the areas of development priority (see “Priority fields of study” above) • have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.9 from undergraduate if applying for a masters or from masters if applying for a doctorate/PhD. For applicants from GFAs and other exceptional candidates (to be determined by DFAT on a case-by-case basis, including people with disabilities), have a GPA equal to or higher than 2.75 • for masters applicants, have an English language proficiency of at least 5.5 in IELTS (or 525 in paper based TOEFL or 69 in internet based TOEFL or 46 in Pearson PTE). For applicants from GFAs and other exceptional candidates (to be determined by DFAT on a case-by-case basis, including people with disabilities) have IELTS 5.0 (or 500 in paper-based TOEFL or 59 in internet based TOEFL or 38 in Pearson PTE) • for PhD applicants, have an English language proficiency of at least 6.0 in IELTS (or 550 in paper based TOEFL or 79 in internet based TOEFL or 54 in Pearson PTE) • The IELTS or TOEFL or PTE result must be current (a test result obtained within 2 years at closing date of application will be considered current). No other English language test (including TOEFL prediction test) results will be accepted • provide contact details of test centre for verification of TOEFL test results • already hold an undergraduate degree, if applying for a masters • already have a masters, if applying for a doctorate/PhD. Specialisation/professional certificate is not considered a masters’ degree • answer all relevant questions on the application form. Additionally: • If applying for a doctorate/PhD, applicants will be restricted to staff of universities, higher education institutions, research institutes, key policy makers and targeted candidates in other agencies associated with DFAT activities • It is highly desirable for doctorate/PhD applicants to have a letter of support from an Australian university for their proposed field of study. Application dates For study commencing in Australia in 2023: Opening date: 1 February 2022 Closing date: 29 April 2022 (11.59PM AEST) Applications and/or supporting documents received after the closing date will not be considered. The application process Online applications Apply online through OASIS at https://oasis.dfat.gov.au When applying online, all essential supporting documents must be uploaded on OASIS to meet the specific requirements for Indonesia. We advise applicants submitting online to do so well before the closing date. The online application facility (OASIS) experiences peak usage in the days leading up to the closing date and applicants may experience delays. Applicants who apply online (through OASIS) must also complete an additional form ‘the Additional Information for Online Application Form’ at Australia Awards in Indonesia website: https://www.australiaawardsindonesia.org/id/Howtoapp ly Supporting documents Applicants must submit all of the relevant supporting documents listed in the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook. Applicants must also provide the following documents to meet the specific requirements for Indonesia: OASIS document type Certified Birth certificate No Proof of citizenship i.e. KTP, SIM, passport No Current Curriculum Vitae No All official degrees, certificates, diplomas and their transcripts Yes* Current (original) IELTS, or TOEFL, or PTE result. Result must have been obtained within 2 years at closing date of application. TOEFL prediction test result is NOT accepted. No Academic Reference from S2 Supervisor for Doctorate candidates No *Must be certified by: a notary; or the official records department of the institution that originally issued the document/s. The selection process • Applications will be shortlisted after eligibility checking. • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted • The selection process includes an interview. Applicants will be assessed against the following criteria: - academic competence - potential outcome, specifically the contribution to development outcomes in Indonesia - professional and personal leadership attributes including relevant work experience. • Successful candidates will be notified no later than August 2022. • Awardee travel will be subject to meeting the requirements imposed by the Australian Government, as determined by the Department of Education, Skills and

Australia for ASEAN Scholarship Ten students will be selected for an Australia for ASEAN Scholarship, a prestigious enhanced award announced to mark the Australia-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and to advance the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). This is available at Masters level only. Selected students will also participate in an Indo-Pacific Emerging Leaders Program, which will provide a range of learning, networking and development opportunities. The priority areas of study for an Australia for ASEAN Scholarship are the four key areas of the AOIP: • Maritime • Connectivity • Economic • Sustainable Development Cooperation Information on priority areas of study is available on the ASEAN website https://asean.org/speechandstatement/asean-outlook- on-the-indo-pacific/ Preparatory training Successful applicants will be required to attend: • full time (Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm) pre-departure training in Indonesia prior to studying in Australia • course counselling • pre-departure briefing • university’s Introductory Academic Program • other required preparatory study on arrival in Australia.
