Benjamin Franklin was a man of many talents who made important contributions in multiple areas. He did not graduate from school but worked in a candle shop and wrote Poor Richard's Almanac and his own newspaper. Franklin started Pennsylvania's first fire department, used the scientific method to invent the lightning rod, and founded the Pennsylvania Academy and College of Art. He was a key figure of the Enlightenment known for his intelligence, personal freedom, and bringing together important institutions.
