Police in Hong Kong used tear gas against pro-democracy protesters. Tens of thousands of students and members of the Occupy Central movement were demonstrating and some had occupied government property for two nights. Police said they had arrested dozens of people ranging in age from 16 to 58 during the protests. The leader of Hong Kong urged residents to express dissatisfaction with the political process safely and lawfully. A spokeswoman for the student group organizing the protest said the demonstrators plan to continue protesting.

campaign of civil disobedience.
 While the protests , which have swelled following two
consecutive nights of "occupation" of government
property -- have been largely peaceful, police say they

 Leung, who was addressing the protesters for the first
time, urged Hong Kong's residents to express their
dissatisfaction with the political process in a safe and
lawful manner.
 Yvonne Leung, the spokeswoman for the Hong Kong
Federation of Students, which organized the protest,
told CNN that the demonstrators plan to continue.
