The August agenda of the Academic Council covers several topics: 1) Emphasizing the importance of providing course syllabi to students at the start of each semester. 2) Addressing student concerns about their grade slips not including their QPI (Quality Point Index). 3) Clarifying policies around teacher absences and recording student attendance. 4) Discussing potential changes to the curriculum for business management and engineering programs.

3. Importance of Course Syllabus The CSG sent a letter to all Department Chairs on June 21, 2010 reminding them on the importance of the course syllabus In our council consultations, there are some teachers who do not present course syllabus at the start of the semester

4. Magna Carta Provides The Magna Carta of Students’ Rights and Responsibilities Article III Section 1, sub section 1.4.2 (Course Syllabus) states that at the beginning of every semester, students shall be provided with a written course syllabus which contains: Course description, General objectives Instructional content of the course specific objectives and activities Methods and techniques to be used Evaluation and grading system of course requirements Textbooks and references Consultation hours.

5. QPI computation in grade slip In our consultations, students raised a concern regarding no QPI computation in their grade slip This posses an inconvenience in the part of student and parent

6. Clarification of policy on absences of teachers If teacher makes his student wait for 30 min? is the students’ obliged to stay Is it legal to check the attendance of students even if the teacher is absent? If teacher is absent, will we report it to the dean?

7. SBM and Eng’g course concerns Call for OJT in the School of Business and Management is growing Suggested call for action is to begin exploring the possibility of integrating an OJT in the new courses of the School of Business and Management with bias to Service Learning.

8. Eng’g curriculum concerns “ I don't know if this is under the jurisdiction of our respective college deans, but I believe the subjects in the curriculum of some courses do not do justice to the students under it. e.g. The Electronics Engineering curriculum requires 3rd Year students to take up ECE 30 (Vector Analysis) before moving on to ECE 34 (Electromagnetics). This is not true for the Electrical Engineering curriculum, for they proceed directly to Electromagnetics without prior knowledge of Vector Analysis, which is very important for ECE 34. As a result, some or most of my EE friends are having difficulties with ECE 34 while the ECE are dedicating one entire sem to study for Vector Analysis as a prerequisite to ECE 34. Wouldn't you think that's unfair?”
