4. HISTORY
The Taj Group has been active in converting former royal
palaces in India into world class luxury hotels such as the
Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, the Rambagh Palace in
Jaipur and Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. In 1974,
the Taj Group opened India's first international five star
deluxe beach resort, the Fort Aguada Beach Resort in
Goa. The Taj Group also began its business in
metropolitan hotels in the 1970s, opening the five-star
deluxe hotel Taj Coromandel in Chennai in 1974,
acquiring an equity interest and operating contract for the
Taj President, a business hotel in Mumbai, in 1977, and
opening the Taj Mahal Hotel in Delhi in 1978.
In 1980, the Taj Group took its first step internationally by
opening its first hotel outside India, the Taj Sheba Hotel in
Sana'a, Yemen and in the late 1980s, acquired interests
in the Crown Plaza - James Court, London and
51 Buckingham Gate Luxury Suites and Apartments in
London.

6. MACHAN RESTURANT
Machan is truly an adventure for the taste
buds. This 24-hour international eatery, with
a safari décor, is also the capital city's most
popular multi-cuisine restaurant. Machan
offers an extensive a la carte menu,
comprising Southeast Asian and
contemporary western cuisine, popular
Indian dishes and a variety of sandwiches,
pastas and refreshing salads. For lunch, the
buffet offers a clever selection of
international dishes with innovative salads
and desserts. The champagne and caviar
brunch on Sundays is an award-winning
treat, showcasing some of the finest

7. VARQ Resturant
Varq offers a private dining
room for 14 guests. Within
the private dining room, two
evocative and contemporary
figurines, one male and one
female, will be sure to charm
and humour their audience.
In complete contrast, other
artworks within the private
dining room include two
large gold and silver shields
that have been intricately
carved in a traditional style
and a series of four
captivating modern figurative
oils on canvas that depict a
goddess. Here, cuisine and

Stayed in a basement
room which was
comfortable if a little
dark. Slightly mixed
feelings - on arriving at
4am from the station
and asking to sleep in
a chair until dawn at
the Taj and check-in
early for that night, the
receptionist offered us
a chance to shower in
a vacant room, which
was really kind and
much appreciated....
