Introduction:
Present employment status-Freelancer/ self-employed, over 35 years of detail engineering
experience in infrastructure projects, building projects and iron and steel manufacturing projects
in Civil/structural engineering discipline as Principal Civil Engineer in Saudi Arabia (April 2005-
June 2015) and Deputy Chief Civil Engineer (Feb 1978-March 2005) in India with high
responsibility of designing, managing, supervising and coordination of jobs assigned to 5-6
personnel working under me to come up with comprehensive, viable and cost effective design.
I am looking for supervisory positions in civil/structural design, construction management and
project management.
Experience:
 Own consultancy business for private building planning and designs
 Infrastructure projects –(usually roads and utilities costing about 100m Saudi Riyals)
Worked on community area development, waste water management and in waterfront
projects structures for storm water drainage for example culverts, box drain etc.
structures for sanitary system for example lift stations, manholes etc. structures for
potable water system for example concrete chambers, underground water tank etc. all in
coordination with other disciplines and meeting the project requirements, specifications,
schedule and budget of the project. Also worked on some light pole footing design and
set up standards for footing design of street lighting system in the community and
industrial area. Also worked in 2010 on 50.5m Saudi Riyals Gas Distribution Network
which included structures like pipe culvert at road crossings, pipe sleepers, pipe-bridge
etc.
 Building projects –(usually building cost varying between 40-70m Saudi Riyals)
Worked mainly on single storied to 4/5 storied large to medium size concrete buildings
with normal or flat slab design as required in community area development. These
buildings include architecturally complex residential/housing units, offices, hospital,
schools, varsity, and technical Institutes etc. Also worked on industrial buildings for
example in 2012, 326m Saudi Riyals 380/115/34.5 kV Substation 10J and 380 kV
transmission circuits on lattice steel towers to interconnect with Substation 10J in Yanbu
Industrial City. This Contract also included a 34.5/13.8 kV Satellite Substation 101
connecting with Substation 10J. These buildings were constructed with pre-stressed
double tee section roofing system, had basement interconnected with concrete cable
tunnel, equipped with electrically operated overhead crane.

 Iron and Steel manufacturing projects –Worked on conceptual planning, design and
engineering of different types of rolling mill complexes, processing lines for long
products as well as hot and cold rolled flat products, forge shops, blast furnace, Steel
Making, Secondary Metallurgy and Continuous Casting steelmaking viz. basic oxygen
furnace, electric arc furnace, induction furnace in India and abroad of diverse capacities
both for Greenfield and Brownfield projects, their modernization/revamp, relocation of
existing equipment and facilities, up-gradation and modernization of existing facilities.
Also worked on within complex auxiliary facilities for instance various utility pipe bridges,
pipe trestles, 3-4 storied medium to large size various office and control concrete
buildings, underground tanks, concrete cable/water tunnels, culverts, small bridges,
roads, storm and sanitary system.
Roles and responsibilities:
 July 2015-present: Self-employed doing planning and design consultancy for private
building owners in city and suburbs.
 April 2005- June 2015 as a Principal Civil Engineer in Saudi Arabian Parsons Limited for
Yanbu industrial, building and infrastructure projects of Royal Commission for Jubail and
Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
o Review and approval of structural engineering design submittals by the A&E
contractors at all stages of design from concept to final design documents like
design analysis report, project specific design codes and standards, design
inputs, basis of design, scope of work, calculations, STAAD models, technical
specifications, bill of quantities, and measurement and payments etc. all
complete in accordance with the requirements of project specifications and
contractual obligations before sending for bidding and issue for construction.
Sometimes or when situation demands, hands on meeting with the A&E at all
stages of design is to explain to them what deliverables the client expect from
them.
o Supervision, coordination and review of in-house design.
o Providing accurate response/resolution in coordination with the A&E or even
sometimes independently by conducting own design, answer to
clarification/queries and requests for information (RFI)sought by construction
group with or without on-site study depending on the case.
o Participate and evaluate technical capabilities of bidders followed by negotiation
meetings to finally select a bidder in presence of the lead supply management
coordinator.
o Participate in value engineering to make the design cost effective and functional
as well as intended
o Create additional engineering standards and update existing ones.
o Act as supervising engineer when needed.

 1978-2005 as senior civil engineer, superintendent civil engineer and deputy civil
engineer in M.N.Dastur& Co. (P) Ltd. Kolkata Indiaforprojects like TISCO, NDIL/Ispaat
Industries Ltd, Bellary Steel and Alloys Ltd., Ispaat Annaba and G. Steel Ltd. in Thailand.
o Check and verify correctness of input data or layout received from project
engineers. Have hands on meeting with all disciplines involved in the project to
resolve any issue, to make sure all inputs are available and they are accurate
and unambiguous. Look at the project schedule and prepare myself and others in
the group accordingly so that the task is completed and delivered much before
the required time schedule.
o Prepare plan/sketches for draftsman/draftsmen to start drafting; using software,
do design calculations and work to generate remaining inputs to complete
drawings. Prepare bill of quantities.
o Check drawings prepared by draftsman/draftsmen; have them corrected by them
if necessary. Send these drawings to concerned disciplines and project sections
for their review and verification of the design whether they meet the
requirements.
o Visit construction site and provide onsite resolution if required.
o To attend project progress meeting with the client and the contractors.
o Prepare minutes of meeting.

 Hazard Communication Program: A course regarding hazard communication program
ensuring that all containers are labelled and employees are provided access to MSDSs
 Zero Tolerance:A course regarding zero tolerance policy which imposes automatic
punishment for infractions of a stated rule, with the intention of eliminating undesirable
conduct.
 Fall Protection: A course regarding falls which are among the most common causes of
serious work related injuries and deaths, set up the work place to prevent employees
from falling off of overhead platforms, elevated work stations or into holes in the floor
and walls
 Personal protective equipment (PPE):Acourse regarding PPE which is anything used
or worn by a person to minimise a risk to the person's health or safety. PPEincludes: eye
protection, like goggles, glasses and face shields. Hearing protection, like ear plugs and
ear muffs.
 Slips and Trips: A course regarding slips which happen where there is too little friction
or traction between the footwear and the walking surface. Trips happen when one’s foot
collides (strikes, hits) an object causing one to lose the balance.
 Office Safety: A course regarding tripping hazard caused by piling boxes, files and
various items in walkways, standing on chairs – particularly rolling office chairs, collision
when making turns in the hallways and around blind corners or cubicle walls, slippery floors
with marble or tile finishes and ergonomic injuries etc.
