2. More about us…
Our Mission
Athena’s Canine Companions is a 501c non-Profit
group of volunteers who are dedicated to assisting in
the process of obtaining trained service dogs for our
veterans who suffer from the challenging symptoms
of Combat Related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD).
Our Purpose
Our organization assists families in planning,
organizing and facilitating fundraising events in order
to provide the service dogs they need to live
productive and safe lives. More than 5 million people
in the United States suffer from post-traumatic stress
disorder (PTSD). Symptoms can be anywhere from
recurring nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety attacks,
difficulty sleeping, irritability or anger outbursts, loss
of interest or feelings of despair and suicidal
thoughts. Along with other forms of treatment for
PTSD, trained service dogs are now being successfully
used to mitigate the challenges of PTSD.
A Warm Hello from Athenas CC!
Our non-profit organization was founded inOakdale,
Minnesota on April 23, 2015 after Co-founders were
introduced to a military member suffering from
serious symptoms of PTSD. Athenas Canine
Companions was quickly formed and fundraising
allowed the family to obtain a trained service dog.
The cost of training service dogs can be expensive and
labor intensive, but with the assistance and support of
Argos K9, the community and our volunteers we look
forward to continuing our mission to pair the right
trained service dog to a veteran in need.
