• Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS) enables
GP’s to refer consumers to ATAPS Mental Health
Professionals who deliver focussed psychological
services
• ATAPS provides access to short-term psychological
services at no cost as it is an Australian Government
Department of Health Initiative
• ATAPS Mental Health Professionals include
psychologists, social workers, mental health nurses,
occupational therapists and Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander Health workers
• all patient information is confidential
• your Mental Health Professional will explain their
appointment system and cancellation policy
• ATAPS After-Hours Suicide Support Line operates
outside of regular business hours to ensure you have
access to expert mental health support around the
clock. Expert counsellors are on-call from 5pm to 9am
weekdays, and 24hrs over the weekends and public
holidays, to support you over the phone when you
can’t reach your regular healthcare provider. No cost
to you (call charges may apply from mobiles)
2. • patient at immediate risk of suicide or self-harm
• patient has diagnosis of Personality Disorder
• patient experiencing psychotic or manic symptoms
• patient existing patient of public mental health
service
• patient has long term persistent mental illness
• patient involved in Workers Compensation or Motor
Vehicle Compensation proceedings
• patient with dementia, delirium, tobacco use disorder
(primary problem) or significant intellectual disability
• present client the ATAPS service and obtain consent
to refer
• complete Health Reimagined ATAPS Referral Form
available at www.healthreimagined.com.au/ataps/
and Mental Health Treatment Plan and fax to
1800 152 551
• ATAPS provider will contact the patient with
appointment
• ATAPS Mental Health Professionals will provide report
to GP and ATAPS Administration after 6th and final
visit with recommendations
• GP required to review client after 6th session with
treating Mental Health Professional and refer a
further 6 sessions if required
• confirm eligibility of patient
• conduct intake and triage assessment to determine
priority access
• allocate patient to most appropriate ATAPS Program
and Mental Health Professional
• process of application process takes 24-48hrs

innovative consumer driven solutions that promote
positive health & social wellbeing outcomes
• Health Reimagined manages Access to Allied
Psychological Services (ATAPS) for Far North
Queensland. Health Reimagined has facilitated and
delivered the service since 2012
• ATAPS forms part of Better Outcomes in Mental Health
Care (BOIMHC) Program providing access to short-
term psychological services at no cost
• eligible patients can receive up to 18 sessions per
calendar year – 3 referrals of 6 sessions where clinically
appropriate
• suicide prevention referrals receive up to 18 sessions
in a 2 month timeframe
ATAPS services gives priority to clients who have difficulty
in accessing mental health treatment
• people not able to access Medicare funded mental
health services
• Culturally and Linguistic Diverse (CALD) communities
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people
• homeless or at risk of homelessness
• people in remote locations
• children with mental disorder or at risk of developing
• people who have self-harmed or at risk of self- harm
or suicide
• women with perinatal depression
• all GPs are eligible to refer to ATAPS Program
• ATAPSfundingiscappedthereforedemandmanagement
strategies in place to ensure equitable access
• Mental Health Professionals are contracted by Health
Reimagined to provide the following services:

¾¾ suicide and self-harm prevention
¾¾ perinatal depression
¾¾ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island mental health
¾¾ remote
¾¾ homeless
¾¾ climatic events
¾¾ child mental health (0-11yrs)
Client must meet the following to be accepted into the
ATAPS Program
• hold current Health Care/Pension Card or experiencing
financial hardship (to be determined by referrer)
• clinically diagnosed of mental illness as per definition
of mental illness for Better Outcomes in Mental Health
Care (BOIMHC) program
• have not accessed ATAPS or Better Access Programs
within current calendar year
