Asturias is an autonomous community in northern Spain with its own distinct culture. Some important aspects of Asturian culture include traditional folk dances that date back many years and are celebrated at events. Asturian mythology features various mythological characters like the trasgu, a creature with a hole in its hand that hides things, and the Xana, a beautiful woman who steals babies. Traditional sports in Asturias also play an important role in the culture as they have been played for over 80 years in small villages.

3. The best traditional dancesAsturian traditional folk dance started many
years ago. These dances are very important.
Many people like dancing this type of music.
In most Asturian celebrations people dance to
celebrate and so not to forget their culture.
Some dances are: Corri Corri, Pericote de
Cue, La Patada y La Media Vuelta. Pericote
de Cue is better than La Patada and more
famous. I think the best one is La Media
Vuelta.

The trasgu is a character that has a
hole on its left hand. He likes hiding
people’s things and he is very fast.
He is considered one of the most

interesting Asturian mythological
character.
6. The Xana
The Xana is a young woman that is
very beautiful and pretty. She captures
the babies of other women because her
babies are ugly. Her famous sentence
is: “Toma’l to mocasín y dame’l mi
pelusin” which means “take my ugly
babies and give me your baby”
because the other women’s babies are
more beautiful than hers.
