PGx Analysis in VarSeq: A User’s PerspectiveGolden Helix
Since our release of the PGx capabilities in VarSeq, we’ve had a few months to gather some insights from various use cases. Some users approach PGx workflows by means of array genotyping or what seems to be a growing trend of adding the star allele calling to the existing NGS pipeline for whole genome data. Luckily, both approaches are supported with the VarSeq software platform. The genotyping method being used will also dictate what the scope of the tertiary analysis will be. For example, are your PGx reports a standalone pipeline or would your lab’s goal be to handle a dual-purpose workflow and report on PGx + Diagnostic findings.
The purpose of this webcast is to:
Discuss and demonstrate the approaches with array and NGS genotyping methods for star allele calling to prep for downstream analysis.
Following genotyping, explore alternative tertiary workflow concepts in VarSeq to handle PGx reporting.
Moreover, we will include insights users will need to consider when validating their PGx workflow for all possible star alleles and options you have for automating your PGx analysis for large number of samples. Please join us for a session dedicated to the application of star allele genotyping and subsequent PGx workflows in our VarSeq software.

3. Rodger Rabbit- Sleeping with Sirens.
This song represent Kellin Quinn the lead singer of ‘Sleeping
with sirens’ life and his struggles. The song talks about people
being bullied and going the hard stages in their lives. The lyrics
read ‘You've got your friends and you've got your foes’
meaning that you never really know who your friends as they
could be just using you to get what they want; and in Kellins
case they wanted his fame and fortune. Kellins dad
abandoned him just before his fourth birthday and you can
hear in the song Kellin pouring his heart out to his father.
Many teenagers have suffered with depression in some point
in their life, one of his fans wrote him a letter saying she
struggled with self harm. Kellin quotes ‘Wrists are for
bracelets, not cutting’; as he has been through a similar stage
in his life. The meaning of this song is that how much your
words could seriously effect someone and just to learn to love
yourself and always be yourself.
4. The Climb- Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus not only sings this song but she
sings it with emoticon. She relates to this
song as she gets so much hate, she sings ‘The
struggles I'm facing the chances I'm taking
sometimes might knock me down but no, I'm
not breaking’. She sings this song not only for
herself but for everyone who is struggling
too. She tells everyone just to keep
going, you may get knocked down but you’ll
get back but and it will get better. She puts
her heart and sole into this song to get her
message out to the world, if she can get
through it anyone can.
5. Skyscraper- Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato went through a rough stage in her life struggling with depression
and self harm. She sings ‘Go on and try to tear me down I will be rising from the
ground’ meaning no matter what they say to her she will get back up and be so
much stronger than she was before. She wants everyone to know that no matter
what people say to you, that you will get back up and it will always get better;
also that your words can seriously effect someone. Around 121 million people
worldwide have some form of depression. She wants everyone to know that if
she can do it so can you; she urges people to seek help as that’s what she has
done and it has helped her immensely.
6. ‘Pursuit of Happyness’
Face your problems and always
have hope.
In the film ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’, Chris Gardner played by Will
Smith showed the audience his struggles and problems he
encounters in his life. Chris manages to keep his head up high by
the motivation from his 5 year old son Christopher. Chris
continually tried and was always disappointed but he never gave up
hope. If at first you don’t succeed, keep trying just as Chris did; he
got knocked back so many times and struggled with so many
problems including being homeless for a long period of time, but
he got back up and made a difference in this world. Chris had no
job, no home and no money but he faced those issues and turned
his world upside down and became a multi-millionaire. This movie
has been said to be made about everyone who will never quit.
Chris slept in a public bathroom yet he still stayed determined to
provide a stable lifestyle for his son Christopher and he did exactly
that. If Chris can go from sleeping on the streets to a multi-
millionaire then why can’t you do the same? Face your problems
and always have hope.
8. Writing: Africa’s pain is my pain
The Poem Africa’s pain is my pain written by Ayanle Isak and it explains all
of Africa’s problems and struggles and how it affects him. The poem reads
‘Your children are lonely and depressed’ this is such a sad statement as
the children are the generation of the future, and they deserve a good
education and a stable and happy home and many of the kids in Africa are
getting the complete opposite of that. Many people including children are
starving and dehydrated whilst people in wealthier countries take
everything for granted including meals. People in today’s society need to
learn how good they really have it and learn to appreciate everything.
Worldwide every year 15 million children die of hunger equalling out to
be 41,095 per day which most of these occurring in Africa. Whilst the
people in Africa are starving to death they still go on to search for
meaning and purpose in this world. They do not complain about their
state of living yet they still find a way to appreciate what they have even
though it is very little. From living in such a horrible environment they
learn to appreciate life as they have seen just how fragile it is.
9. Role Models- Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato is my role model as she has been through
so much yet she is still here today standing strong.
Demi has struggled with self harm and depression.
She lives on today to inspire not only her fans but
everyone to keep going and it will get better. She
encourages everyone to seek help if they are going
through something similar as her, Demi is currently in
rehab and she encourages others who are thinking of
taking their lives to do the same. Demi has many
songs that show exactly how she is feeling and that is
how she lets out her emoticons. She has been
knocked down over and over again by people
constantly hating on her but she stands strong today
and wont let anyone get her down. Smile and let the
world wonder why.
10. Spiritual Leaders
All of these spiritual leaders
make up the recipe for world
peace and happiness. They
have got their message out on
how and why we need world
peace and why it is so
important. They are all
compassionate about what they
believe in and they do not give
up whilst trying to get their
word out into the world. They
teach us to appreciate and love
one another; also that it is not
hard to make a difference just
as they did.
11. ‘The Good Samaritan’
The parable of the Good Samaritan tells the story of a man
who was beaten and was left half dead; many people
passed by but not one helped him until a Good Samaritan
came to his side and took pity of him. If someone is in
need of your help no matter what their gender, race or
religious beliefs are you should always go to their aid and
help them, as the saying goes treat others how you want
to be treated. The Good Samaritan who helped the
attacked man had no idea who he was or anything about
him but he still chose to help him. This story is extremely
relevant in today’s society because many people today are
just like the ones who pass by and do not help in the
parable; it is so hard to find people nowadays who are like
the Good Samaritan and people should aspire to have
similar values as he does. The Good Samaritan has such
good intentions and morals. For example he helps others
when they are in need and gives them a helping hand
when others did not. People these days need to realise
they cannot always rely on other people to help the ones
in need when really they should be taking action to make
this world a friendlier place.
12. Modernised Beatitudes
Blessed are the unfortunate souls, for there is always hope.
Blessed are those who cry, as they will be sympathised.
Blessed are the humble, for they will be given the Earth.
Blessed are those who crave justice, for their wishes will be fulfilled.
Bless are the compassionate, for they will be shown compassion.
Blessed are those who have a golden heart, for they will be granted the gift of
God.
Blessed are the ones who create peace, for they will be the children of God
Blessed are those who have their rights taken away, for they will be granted
the gift of the kingdom of Heaven.
13. Buddhism on Relationships
Many have thought that the Buddha was against marriage but that is
wrong. The Buddha never spoke against being marries though he did
pick out the flaws in it. He mentioned the difficulties and worries that
people would have to face being married. The Buddha had only
warned one person against the problems in marriage so that does not
mean that he condemned marriage. It is natural to become attached
to another person and have feelings for them but problems will arise
somewhere in the relationship. This message is relevant for today’s
youth as you do not need to be in a relationship and you can still be
complete with one; also being in a relationship you’re taking on
responsibilities and you are going to have to face many problems in
the relationship.
