3. CHALLENGES IN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Construction

Equipment Misallocation
Workers spend around 15% of their time
searching tools. This in turn leads to revenue
loss.
Worker Productivity
when project leaders aren’t able to easily
determine the availability and status of tools,
equipment, and people, they won’t be able
to accurately assign items and workers to
specific jobs, which can again affect overall
productivity and profits
Disorganization
This impacts employee productivity
negatively. When construction businesses fail to
properly catalog assets, this negligence increases the
chance of employees stealing equipment from the
company which leads to revenue loss.
If not maintained properly will result in higher than
normal fuel and maintenance costs which in turn leads to
equipment breakdown.
Equipment Maintenance
.
Asset Condition
Forklifts, excavators, lifters and
loaders and various other vital
equipment on non-residential
construction sites, all need to be
present and in working order to
ensure optimum efficiency of the
building process
4. FEATURES

Anti-Theft protection &Tracking
Track and monitor asset movement and asset
condition.
Analytics & Reporting
Track asset history and monitor important metrics like asset
utilization,operations efficiency.
Monitor Diagnostics
Get real time diagnostics from battery status to operating
temperature
Find and Locate
See in Real time who was connected to the last asset and
where the location was.
5. BENEFITS
• Better operating efficiency by controlling wear
and tear of the assets.
• Improve Asset utilization to above 80%.
• Track all of your assets with a single platform that
buffers you from underlying tagging hardware
technology.
• Easily set flexible workflows and conditions for sending
notifications, alerts for faults, theft and
preventive maintenance.
• Using the asset history data for analytics to get insights
into the usage of different categories of tools used in
different phases of construction. This data can be used
for streamlined allocation of assets to different
construction sites increasing the asset utilization
efficiency.
• Business process inefficiency.
• Financial losses.
• Ad-hoc maintenance requirements
• Reduced maintenance leading to better
utilization of all assets subsequently having
better damage control.
• Help prevent costly disruptions by
monitoring systems and environments
therefore potentially preventing
incidents before they happen.
• Asset theft.
6. SOLUTION SUMMARY
1. AssetTracking Solution using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, sensors, barcode readers integrated with the asset
tracking cloud and mobile based application.
– AssetTracking uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to locate assets. RFID tags take the guesswork out of AssetTracking. In
turn, the RFIDTags broadcast the locations of these items. This gives you real-time information on the status, movement, and position of
every asset.
2. RFID tag Association
– Track Assets by attaching RFIDTags to assets. RFID tags must be linked to the assets.
3. RFID Read zone layout – On the doors
– Tags communicate with the tools and equipment via the RFID receiver on each floor of the building under construction. Receivers are placed on both sides of the
door.
4. RFID Read zone layout – Docking station
– Tools after usage are placed in the RFID docking station communicates with the a low frequency RFID receiver. The receiver sends the data to the cloud based
asset tracking application.
5. Sensors
– Monitor temperature, humidity or similar parameters. And supervise machine idle and downtimes or control the hours of usage of an asset or any of its electrical
components.
6. Asset tracking Software
– Software to handle the data from the above hardware components; Reporting,Analytics and dashboard capabilities; Integration with mobile app; inventory
management and asset tracking.
7. HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS
3. RFID receiver dock
RFID Readers are placed on the tool dock to monitor and track the tools
after usage.
check-in ;check-out and fault monitoring of the equipment done at the
same dock.
Worker will check-out the equipment from the dock with his ID code
flashed to the receiver in the process the tool gets tagged to the new
worker in the system.
4.Asset tracking cloud application
RFID Tags data from the assets are captured in the Asset Tracking Software. Through an intuitive
interface, you can track and locate specific assets on-site from a laptop, remotely on your web
browser, or even while on the go using your mobile device.
Sensors send the asset data (temperature, humidity parameters and more ) to the application which
uses the analytics capabilities and helps in preventive maintenance of the equipment.
2. RFID Receiver
RFID Readers are tailor-fit to the business environment and
installed at strategic points so that they can “read” the signals
being broadcasted by the RFID Tags. The data is sent to the asset
tracking app which updates the inventory data. Sensor data is also
captured by the application and stored for further analysis.
1. RFIDTags/Sensors/Barcode Reader
RFID Tags are physically placed on the assets. Each tag is programmed with the equipment’s
detailed information. Once added to the Asset Tracking System, the equipment can be
monitored for usage, maintenance records, and real-time location.
Sensors will be used to collect data from the heavy assets for condition monitoring of
the assets like generators, compressors.
Barcode readers will be used to assign unique IDs to all the smaller tools in the inventory.
9. HARDWARE AND TECHNICAL SPECS
RFIDTags
• Are either attached to or embedded in items
• Tagged items store and send information
• Thousands can be identified simultaneously and do not have to be visible
RFID Readers/Receivers
• Have antenna(s) for either short or long range communication
• Can be small and portable, or larger and installed, or embedded in other devices
Barcode Reader
• Used to assign the unique ID to any assets.
Sensors
• Monitor temperature, humidity or similar parameters. And supervise machine idle and downtimes or control the hours of
usage of an asset or any of its electrical components.
10. USE CASE – SCENARIO 1 – ASSET SEARCH BY THE WORKER
Asset Enquiry in Store
Worker checks for the required tool in
the store
Application search for Asset
Asset tracking application in the store shows
the asset location in the system
Asset condition check
Worker goes to the location checks the
condition of the Asset.
Asset stored after use
If the asset is not utilized it is placed in the
RFID docking station of the floor by the
worker by doing a Check-Out at the docking
station.
Asset check - Options
Docking station has 3 options:
Check –in
Check –out
Fault condition
Asset check-out
If found faulty then flags the same to the
receiver at the dock else Checks-Out
the tool from the docking station by
flashing his ID
Asset status update
Asset is now updated with the current
worker ID in the inventory module of
the cloud app

FIXED ASSETS
04030201
Heat alarm
An overheating device
sends alert to the
construction manager.
The equipment sends
the value , the part
which is overheating to
the application using the
sensor placed in the
equipment
Mobile app
The Technician views the
values, equipment details,
standard operating
procedures, equipment
history, location, on the
mobile phone via the asset
tracking application..
Location
Technician visits the
exact location and check
the inventory via the
software app. He issues
a component issue
request and gets spot
approval.
Real time
update
He completes the
component replacement
and real time updates
are done via the mobile
service.

Analysis
The maintenance manager
analyses the data and
makes the maintenance
equipment strategy in
smart asset maintenance.
He also monitors the
equipment and does
predictive maintenance
for critical assets to
improve the equipment
uptime.
12. USE CASE SCENARIO 3- ASSET
UTILIZATION
Asset utilization time
The application calculates the asset
utilization time based on the usage
time recorded in the asset usage
history in the asset tracking
software
Over or under utilized
Based on the asset history data
the we can infer whether the asset is
over or under utilized.
Asset Priority index
With the asset history data the asset
priority can be set for each category
of assets.
StreamlinedAllocation
Asset allocation will be done on the
basis of the priority index.
Maximum Utilization
With the streamlined allocation the
asset usage can be maximized for
each and every asset in the inventory.
Control Wear & tear
Finally the wear and tear of the asset is
controlled which leads to increased
operational efficiency.
